Unhappy Wierd sound from engine....

Ok guys, for the past 3 ro 4 weeks I have been hearing a very strange sound coming from the motor. After letting of the accelerator there is a very loud humming noise emminating from the motor and it is so loud that it vibrates the gas pedal. It only happens on decel, intermitently. Im thinking that it could be torque converter or something much much worse. Any help would be appreciated before my Lightning explodes...or something.

Cool

Although I do not have a Lightning, I am sure that these tests will help eliminate some of your other parts on the truck. When sitting, leave the truck in park and SLOWLY rev the engine up to say 3000-3500 rpms. Then let the gas off, do you get the vibration or noise?? Do this same scenerio but have the truck in Neutral. Rev it up and then let off, it you get the vibration/sound then it is somewhere from the back of the transmission forward. If it doesn't then you can eliminate the engine & transmission. I have dealt with a transmission shop for a vibration in my truck and they told me the above will help eliminate some of the parts. Another thing is if the vibration doesn't show up, take the driveshaft off and have it check for balance and make sure that the place takes the universals out and check to make sure all of the bearings look okay and that the grease is getting everywhere it is suppose to. If they have to replace any of them, make sure that they use universals with grease zerks in them. They will last a lot longer than normal. Hope this helps and let us know.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'

Izzy,
Thanks for the advice. I did what you suggested, and I couldnt reproduce the sound at all. I have no idea what is going on. It seems to only make the sound after it has been sitting for a few days. Hopefully nothing serious. Thanks!
