Thumbs up New exhaust system installed today.

Replaced the Magnaflow 12568 with Magnapack 14416's today. This is the sound I've been looking for. Check out the pics - Magnapack 14416's installed today

Shouldn't the X pipe be before the mufflers?

The guy that does my exhaust work ordered the x-pipe at the same time he ordered the 14416's. It was listed on the invoice but was rolled into the price. I would think that any exhaust shop or supply should be able to get you one. It's a 2.5 by 2.5.

I asked him about the location of the x-pipe (front or back) and was told it wouldn't make a difference in this case due to the location of the pieces and the lenght of the run. All I know is this guy has been doing exhaust work on my toys for a while and he has never crossed me up on something like that.

Question Question

Where did you get the x-pipe section? Price? P/N ? Do you have a sound file of it?

That setup looks super clean... I ordered me a set of same mufflers but I was planning on installing them without an X-Pipe like Beefcake did? I would like to hear your to be able to compare.

Thanks,
JC

I don't have a wav of mine but a member over at NLOC did this mod (minus the x-pipe) and he posted the wav below. It was what convinced me to do mine.

How they sound (Borrowed from beefcake)

It's similar to straight pipes but without the rough edges.

Yep, just listened to the file. Thats glass packs all right. Get em real hot, then stick a garden hose in your pipes, turn on the water and fill them up. They really get loud then this brings back memories

Caka - Yeah, they are pretty much glass packs. They are 4" mufflers with a 2-1/2 hole thru the middle of them. Doesn't leave much to muffle the sound.

Xtremejc - All the paper work for this is out in the L. I'll look tomorrow and see if there is a p/n for this. If not I'll call him on Monday and see if I can get the numbers.

BlownSVT2001 - Mine sound pretty much like the ones in the wav that beefcake made. The only difference is they sound better in person than they do in the wav.

The mufflers and the X pipe are on Magnaflows web site. The X pipe is listed under hardware.

Question: what is the "X" pipe's purpose?

I was wondering the same thing why not just run the two pipes straight off the mufflers. Also has anyone bypassed catalytic converters? Seems to me this would be a choke point that could be eliminated.

Simple explanation is the x-pipe helps pull exhaust gasses out of the system by creating a vacuum that alternates sides as the cylinders push exhaust gas towards the end of the tailpipe. Exhaust rushing down one side creates a vacuum in the other side as it passes the x and helps suck the gasses out.

People can and do run straights without the x-pipe in place. There are a couple L's doing just that around here.
