New Irwindale Speedway and Truck-Traks Testing
I visited the new Irwindale Speedway 1/8 mile facility last night. This is a top notch track with paved, well lighted pits and a well lighted 1/8 mile. Considering that this was opening night and the track was green, it hooks well.
My mission was to test the Truck-Traks, and get a tune up that my customers can use w/o a bunch of trial and error. Since many are running ET Streets I have invested in a set also.
I built a test device to allow me to see when the snubber is in contact with the spring. This will allow me to determine how far down track that they are contributing to weight transfer.
Here are the results:
1st run was about 7:45 and was at 76 degrees. Humidity around 45%
Launch RPM 1000
60' - 1.94
330' - 5.513
1/8 - 8.47 @ 82.58
2nd run 8:15 - 71 degrees
Launch RPM 1300
60' - 1.889
330' - 5.462
1/8 - 8.394 @ 83.43
3rd run 9:00 - 68 degrees
Launch - 1600 RPM
60' - 1.871
330' - 5.429
1/8 - 8.354 @ 83.53
All of these runs were made with no spacer, and a clearance of 1 1/4" from snubber to spring. The above runs were made on slightly used ET Streets (4 runs). They were inflated to 18 lbs. I was at full weight, including my ******** bed cover.
The snubber was in full contact for the entire 1/8 mile, and did not release until shut-off. On the street, with the same snubber ht., it stays in contact up to almost 80 MPH. This is on F-1's.
I don't really know how these would carry over to 1/4 times Maybe someone here could help?

Wow I didn't know they had opened already. I live about 5-10 minutes away from Irwindale. I need to finish getting my mods installed and head on over...
I'm not 100% sure but looking at posts in the past I think you're knocking on the 12's in the 1/4 with those 1/8 times if you're not already there.

I haven't run any better that 13.71 as yet. With the new PSP pulley and Swanson tune, I feel that 12's are attainable. I probably won't make it at full weight, but am going to try as soon as possible.
The ET Streets bite incredibly well with the Truck-Traks. I bettered my 60' times by .15 and my 1/8 times by .5. I feel that there is still a little left in the launch.

Jay, thank you for taking the time to do your "little test". Iam searching for a set of traction enhancers ! Haven't made up my mind yet on which way to go. BUT as my sig says, I support supporting vendors or something..............

I originally designed my Truck-Traks as a street/strip traction device for our trucks. My intention was that they would be mostly used on the street, with occasional trips to the track. I seems like it's the other way around, with customers using them at the track regularly.
I'm not worried about the stress and strain that they will take, as they are built with that in mind. What is showing up know, is my limited track experience with them. I decided it was time to take myself to the next level, so that my customer's would not have to do so much trial and error.
I have invested in more power, with a PSP lower pulley, and a Swanson custom tune. I have also purchased ET Streets.
My testing last night, has given a good baseline setting, upon which we can tune additionally. I don't know how this will compare to other tracks around the country, but I was finally able to test at a track that wasn't a slip and slide.

Got my truck traks today. All I can say is WOW. They look to good to put on, but I need the traction. Only took me 30 minutes to install though. The only problem I had was hunting for some lock washers. You forgot to put some in the box. The distance between the snubber and spring was 1 5/8" with no spare tire. I am going to leave it alone until I get to the track for some tuning. Thanks a bunch.
Justin, sorry about the lock washers.
1 5/8" should be fine. You will probably have more power than my truck, so you should be able to plant the snubber into the spring hard.
When you test, you should feel the rear squat. Actually, the rear isn't squatting, it is the front lifting. It just fells that way.
Let me know how they run.

Jay, did you have any problem with the noise abatement rule at Irwindale? I notice that it is even more restrictive than Fontana, 90 db @ 100'. I don't know how loud your truck is, but I know my blower whine is pretty loud @ w.o.t., and I sure don't want to waste a 200+ mile trip if they are going to black flag me.
Jay, thanks for your reply, me thinks i MUST SPEND SOME MORE MONEY!
To my favorite doggy, (snopp is secondary to you), if those noise police give you any chit.......I will load up my sorry a$$ and take a road trip to right all the wrongs across this great country of OURS

George, my blower is louder than it used to be. It's spinning a little faster now.
Noise is a non issue for us. There were a few cars thare that were barely muffled. There were a couple of powerful outlaw cars too, and they made significant noise. Our trucks are actually pretty quiet.
You won't waste the trip. Just get there early. They close the gates at 7:00 PM

Excellent! I don't know where Irwindale is, so I did a search on Mapquest and its only an 80 mile drive, not bad compared to Famoso or Fontana. Getting there early is no problem, especially when the track opens at 4. Is that the time the gates open, or when the races start? When do you plan on going again? I would like to meet up with you, and possibly caravan with another person here in Ventura who just bought a new L.
FastGator, the website is still under construction. If you email me your address, I can get you the shipping charges. I'll get back to you with the total.
Email is in my sig.

Jay,
Will your Truk-Traks work with Bassani cat-back and the Hotchkis sway bars? I'm having some traction prob's and would be interested in something for use on the street as well as the track. Thanks.

Boltaction, I have several customers who have the Bassani exhaust, and report no problems.
I'm not sure about the Hotchkis sway bars. I believe that they will work as long as the springs are stock. The Hotchkis springs are 1/2" thiner, and require an adaptor, which I now have available.
Do the sway bar mount in the stock location?
