Angry This is crazy. Dealer Does Not Know How To Change Drive Belt

Took my '99 into the Dealer yesterday to change the serpentine drive belt and the supercharger belt. Serpentine drive belt was squealing in the cold weather, especially at start-up. Took more than a day to get the two belts.

Anyway, they claim they worked on it for THREE hours, and cannot figure how to get the serpentine drive belt off. Had several techs take a crack at it. Pulled some parts off, and still no deal.

Now they have called SVT, who has to contact the engineers to figure out how this is done. Probably not going to be finding anything out from the engineers until next week. I get the truck back until then.

Now, how lame is this?

In case you are interested, this is Sheehy Ford in Gaithersburg MD.

I'd tell them to give me the belt then change it myself, or take it to another non-Ford mechanic to do it. Wouldn't take it back to that dealer......

That's for the s/c pulley, though.

To change the accessory serpentine belt you just release the tensioner, and PRESTO!

You have to remove the supercharger belt to get to the front accessory drive belt, which involves removing the lower blower pulley and cage, if your truck still has the stock pulley or one with a cage. If you have a pulley without the cage it's just a matter of removing the supercharger pulley then the accessory drive belt.

I know, I don't know what I was thinking.

Thanks for keeping me in line.

Okay, folks, many thanks for the responses. I will give the dealer a bit of time to come up with "the solution" from SVT. If they don't respond quickly, then I will give them your input.

Hey redlite:
Do you want me to come up there and show them how it's done?
It's things like this that makes me wonder who they're SVT certified technicians are???::

ThunderStruck, thanks for the offer. Might not be a good idea to come over to Sheehy and show them what they need to do. You might embarrass them, and they will respond by voiding your warranty.
