JDM's 01 Blown Engine, Why???
Hey! That's better! I wen't back to get a better look at the block. #2 rod is the one in pieces. #6 is bent. That explains the hole in the top of the block when #5 piston came appart. Ok, I can recant what I heard on three breaking. This is just a little bit of the puzzle. Do you have any of the crank removed with a close up of the main journals?

Mine was aimed at CornerCarver(he couldn't find the pics but he is a webnet whizzzz); sometimes he's slow(especially at the track-raotflmao)..

I guess those powdered metal rods will go back to their original state. That one didn't break, it vaporized.
Did it pull the bottom out of the piston as it reversed direction on overlap, as 1BADTRK said? I would suspect that might have been the precurser to the rod breakage. These long stroke motors would have a tendency to have a high piston speed as the RPM increases.

Anybody have pic's of the cam's that were on the heads of Jim's blown motor?
Hey LIGHTNINROD, Corner Carver is a great guy...I'm not getting in the middle between you to..LOL
He is an expert at electrical stuff. He's the man, He wired up and helped me install my Ford electric fan, works like a charm...Sounds like a F-16 under the hood all the time...
I'm working on getting him to add some mod's to his L, but he has a project car at the moment...
take care,
Dave

DL,
I just got off the phone with Jim@JDM, and he said that if you pay the shipping he will send the engine to your front door for inspection!!!
The valve covers were never removed and the seal is still in place.

Hey 2_FAST4U:
Thanks for the offer, but no thanks. I don't want anything of Jim's at my house, sorry. That is from me personally.
I see that I can't ask questions anymore without some people taking it personally..
Hey I really don't care who has the fastest truck, never really did. I used to put JL was the fastest to poke a little fun with everyone, not just JDM, we all find out everyone's ET's anyway.
Because I have met you, I will let it be and do like you and Brian K stated, wait and see what happens in the future..
We all need to get along with each other, nobody can say anything about something without it turning into a fight on here.
Why is it that finding out that JDM's motor blew is such a hush hush thing...All JDM has to do is state the motor was completely stock with add on Mod's, that's it, enough said, and we would all move on to something else.
Just want to let everyone know that I speak for myself, I ask these questions because I want to know.....JL doesn't have anything to do with what I write on the forums, I speak for myself....Yes I use parts from JL, Ba Bolt, and maybe Mark at LFP very soon for a upper pulley, but no certain person influences me on what I write on these boards...My local Senior Ford mechanic who also builds race engines and races cars puts ideas in my head soemtimes and I ask the kind of questions that I do.
Doug and anyone else, The posts about the Diablo Flip chip was from me E-Mailing Diablo directly, JL didn't know anything about it..I posted what Diablo sent me in an E-Mail on these boards to get the info out, not to advertise for them..I wanted a flip chip from Diablo, I like having two programs to choose from like you JDM guys have, instead of one...
Let me make sure this is clear, JL does not influence me on any of my posts here..I say what I want to say on here, and Doug trys to keep me straight...Thanks Doug for trying to keep us all straight, this is not a poke at you...
Doug, I think you have been fair in the past, but things haven't been the same around here lately since Ennis... There's a lot more stuff going on behind the scenes lately and there is no reason for it...
Thanks, peace

DL and Everyone else
The ONLY thing that changed since ENNIS is that I was there. What that means is I met Brian K, and Andre, and Jim and Julie and a bunch of guys from Houston.
It also means that as I said before.... I saw the run and I saw the truck and I heard the responses from the crowd. In the past I stayed out of the discussions because I had a tough time knowing who was bull****ting who.
In my mind and others posting the same leading questions on all the popular boards except SVTPerf might make enquiring minds want to know what is behind the question. Especially when the question is asked with a little soap opera twist.
( Just for personal curiosity what detail of the truck or the tune is missing ? )
Jim NEVER said "Buy these parts from me and run 11's." He made it clear he was trying to see how far he could push the engine. The stuff he was running he hasnt sold to anyone as far as I know.
Based on reading the various boards most folks have had the majority of their questions answered. If you are truly interested in going on an in depth fact finding tour then go to the source. Since Jim doesn’t post here often the best place to ask questions about his truck that haven’t been answered is on the Board he reads everyday or in email.
So for these reasons I have taken an ACTIVE role in trying to keep the war that others and I expected to come from a Tuners cratered engine from getting out of control.
Seems I have critics if I do nothing, I have critics if I post with out moderating and I have lots of critics anytime I do anything that comes close to moderating. I know full well I can’t keep everyone happy. My goal is to do what I can to keep this the Best Gen2 Lightning resource on the Internet.
Have I screwed up in the past YEP !! Will I do it again ? YEP
Do I try to learn from my mistakes YEP !!
If you have detailed constructive criticism send it to me in email. I am happy to get feedback. It helps me judge how things are going. The feedback I am most concerned about is Steve’s. As long as he is happy I can’t be too far off.
Have a great DAY !!!
Doug

DL,
The reason Jim made that offer was to put any questions to rest and/or thread that might cause another war.
There are only two questions Jim has yet to answer about the engine.
1.) Did too much boost cause the rod failure??
2.) Did a '01 computer problem cause the rod failure due to a voltage issue in the computer?
These questions have not been answered yet because more testing needs to be done.
The new engine will have the same EXACT mods at the first engine had to determine the problem while closely monitoring the two suspected culprits of the first engine failure.
We will all know when the second engine gives way and the data is revealed.
Until that time this thread is done and the questions should stop because it is clear what happened with the pictures and Jim's explanation.
I am not starting anything DL, I am just stating the facts on this issue again.

DL/WHEREDIDJOEGO or whatever the hell your name is. The only thing I see is you trying to smear JIM. Jim doen't post here becuase hes not a supporting vendor and eveyone knows that. You post this Bull***** everywhere except his board where he can defend himself. Why, haven't you posted over there? Because you are a checken***** troublemaker with your own ajenda and I hope we meet some day so I can tell it to your face.

DL,
No cams bud just boost out the ying yang. I don't think JL has put you up to anything. He has good products that speak for themselves. You just seem to have a hard time believing Jim's internals were stock. Jim and JL are only running about a tenth apart. JL says his internals are stock and I believe him. Doug is doing the best he can trying to keep things neutral so lighten up. He always seems to be the popular guy no matter which way things go.
Here's a qoute from Jim off of the other board.
"We got greedy and added two more pounds of boost.
Result, one broken rod.
Jim@JDM"
Look at the grinding on the snout of the supercharger.

I don't believe DL is trying to smear anyone. He just asked a question.
