There was a Contour SVT at the SVTOA outing here in Michigan yesterday that has done the same thing. I believe I remember hearing he pulled 194hp on the dyno.

Long story.........................
Short story; after assembly and correcting the timing, there was a loud noise which sounded like valve train problems. I took it to Bankston for diagnosis (another long story), and they determined that the 3.0L block had "piston slap". After paying an $800 bill and disputing their claim, I had the car towed directly to John Eagle where they confirmed Bankston's diagnosis (long story) for a mere $700. I then had the car hauled to Denton for analysis by a privately owned garage. They determined that it was valve train noise and not the lower end.
Apparently, modifying the head gaskets to duplicate the 2.5L gasket holes is not a good idea. The heads are coming off next week and stock 3.0L gaskets will be installed. We think that by punching a couple of holes in the oil return part of the 3.0L gasket may have prevented the lifters from pumping up properly thus causing the noise. We will see.
Anyway, one way or the other, I am staying with it until I get it running.
The disappointing thing in this whole mess is the apparent misdiagnosis by two of the better service dealers in the DFW area. To make a long story short, I would strongly suggest that anyone doing similar non-stock modifications of their vehicles stay away from Ford service departments. I had rather have someone working on my car that understands the fundimental mechanical operation of a dual over-cam motor than someone that merely looks at the computer printouts and makes a diagnosis.
