Looks like Juice to me! Or a really bad lean condition. Let us in on some more info. Hope it was just a set of plugs that grenaded and not the whole engine.

The engine is lain waste. I did not have any problems with the stock plugs, these(S-F's) were put in, 24 hrs later the motor started to miss - badly. I was using JL's chip and I noticed det at WOT@2nd-3rd gear, but I was hearing the popping sounds a little with the stock plugs, and they were a nice tan color, even after running the chip for 2 weeks.

I can't really say where my truck is for service or what I told the the service manager, (just in case this board is being watched) but suffice it to say that the motor is being replaced with a 02's motor. Complete unit w/blower.

I will NEVER again use SplitFire plugs. I think that I might even pursue action against them for this. I had another set in a motorcycle (V-Max) which did something very simular, and that bike did run to the rich side. Trashed a $2,000 motor. I should have learned my lesson.

Whoa, Silver!

I have my reciept and the boxes that these plugs came in. I am going to write SplitFire's management and see how they respond to this issue.

So the S/F's are DEFINIATELY out!

What is the most stable plug? NGK TR-6 or stock?

I grenaded a $3000 jet ski engine w/ those. They'll probably tell you to use a hotter plug, so that the electrodes dont melt.

Thumbs down

Man....I can't believe that there are still some of you using these plugs!!! With the MANY horror stories that have abounded, including mine of last June, concerning Splitfires. I trashed my motor (blew the ends off of two plugs, ruined the head, scored the block)last June after returning from WFC4 in St. Louis. I had to replace the motor out of pocket....Ford wouldn't even talk about it.

Guys / Gals......if ya got Splits in your "L", you better have some deep pockets, full of cash.

Master of pain, sorry to hear about your motor but what i want to no is were are the dozen other L's posts from the past six months that trashed there motor using ngk tr6 or in the case of someone i know tr7s or 8s's? I went back to stock plugs after trying five different kinds and plan on sticking with stock just in case this happens to my motor. I beleive this has everything to do with tune and nothing to do with plug brand and gives a false sense of security to ngk or even stock plug users that this won't happen to them. Anybody running to lean, pinging ect and continuing to run there truck needs to stop and fix the problem and not blame the plug brand. If you look at all the reported engines trashed and do the math, ngk leads the pack by far....why? Because there are more modded L's using them WHILE RUNNING TOO LEAN and pushing the envelope.

Closer loook at mine and the electrodes dont appear LEAN. They are BROKE. My theory is that the L engine chipped with almost any chip has a tendancy to detonate a little. The design of the splitfire introduces a stress riser and that is where the electrode broke in my case.

Sure its my fault for running a chip that detonated. It only pinged a little on tip in and I had run stock polugs with the same chip(s) for 14,000 miles by then....

But I tried making this point a while back and was told that Splitfires rock and I had done something wrong....
