Question Need help with deciphering time slip New intercooler fix also

Finally had a chance to run my 99L here in Boise. We're at 2800 ft and track was in the 70s with a slight head wind. Mods are as follows. R9 superchip, Airaid box with front panel removed, fabricated x pipe in place of muffler, New 10 row intercooler kit installed last month before my old one ever leaked and 26 X 11.5 ET streets. Best time so far has been 13.62 @ 101.3 earlier in the year. Ran a 98 cobra who had pullies, cold air induction, advanced timing to 16 degrees, Nitto drag tires, and 4.11 gears. times are as follows
RT Me .751 Him .690
60' 2.031 2.029
330 5.758 5.708
1/8 8.811 8.725
mph 81.00 82.07
1000 11.459 11.316
1/4 13.707 13.500 (His personal best)
mph 100.37 103.01

He states his does run strong compared to other cobra's. My L ran very consistantly all night 13.707 to 13.749 with very consistant 60's with a best of 2.022. I am running at 18lbs and launching at 1500 with no detectable spin. Shouldn't they be better than that? Any ideas on improvement before mods and what mods to do... gears??? I was suprised to be beat by this cobra but I did make it further up in the brackets. RT's got better also...until I choked the last round

Your altitude is going to take a few tenths and mph off what most people post here. But also your 60fts could be better. Get the 60fts down to the 1.90 range and you'll most likely drop to the 13.40s. The only problem I see from what you posted, is your launch. The best way to launch on the stock converter is between 1000 and 1100 rpm, no higher. Try it, it works

hmm

I've cut a 1.87 60' on my stock F1's at 30lbs.... All launching at 1000 rpms... I'm thinkin the ET streets should help you net closer to a 1.90 as Sal said. Keep those rev's down, and you should be kosher!

The altitude is a power killer. A lower pulley will help compensate for the bad air.

I would also upgrade that R9.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I was launching too high in the rev's. What gain would I see with 3.73's or 4.10's? I've heard 1 tenth in the 60' is 2 tenths at the end, is this true? So with a good launch and corrected to altitude I would be running high 12's or very low 13's, right? Sounds like his cobra was a ringer (also modded) since I've walked a 99 with the fix on the street. There was also a 95 GTS (no frills Mustang) with all major bolt ons including cam and slicks running 13.8's, but only gained 2 tenths with a 150 shot NOS. He was not happy to say the least. Looks like I need to research gearing options....

Gearing will help and bump up the boost. Invest in some E/T streets. No point in changing gears if you plan to stay on steet radials.

Unhappy

I was running my 26 X 11.5 ET streets. That is why I posted, I was expecting much better 60' times.

Sounds like the right tires. Maybe just need a little more HP and work on the launch. Try a lower pulley, you will be amazed.

I'm sure he has the stock 8.8, so therefore he'd have 4.10s, and not 4.11s. Just to let you know, I've seen MANY a '98 Cobras run below 13.6 from the factory floor, w/ one running at 13.0 (this wasn't a fluke, but the track is notorious for helping to produce times that are the quickest in the country). Read on my old Mystic site here:

Mike Smith's '98 Cobra runs 13.08 @ 106.57 Off the Showroom w/ only 267rwhp! Read about it here!

I have a timeslip somewhere around here of a '98 running 13.6@102 bone stock w/ only about 1k miles on it's odo, when it raced next to my Mystic in Gulfport, MS.

BTW, my Mystic w/ stock 3.27 gears pulled out a 13.02 @ 108 w/ 298 rwhp. I was on Nitto Drag Radials and had a 1.9 '60 ft. He could get MUCH better 60's (JeffsLightning on this board has hit 1.7s on BFG's w/ the same rwhp as mine in his Mystic, but he has 4.30s). The gear your buddy should have put in there was a 4.30. You, on the other hand need to stick w/ your 3.73.

Anyhoo, what I'm trying to relay to you is that you're truck will produce better times in better conditions, so don't fret it. A lil more practice is always good too!

Seems like everyone that goes to the track has a "ringer" these days 'eh? LoL! Truth is, 95% or more would run the same times w/ the same driver on the same track.

Great #'s, btw.
