Smile My Dealer MUST Hate Me

Well after having my dealer replace three pinion seals on my truck, I noticed last week it is still leaking. So I took it in tuesday for them to look at it. They told me it was old oil and wiped all the oil off.

I looked under the truck today, and lo and behold a fresh coating of oil.

I called the service manager and told him I wanted the Ford rep to come and take a look at it. I also told him I wanted a whole new rear end. He told me the rep only gets to the dealer every few months, and it would be a while till he could get him to look at my truck.

He was no help, so I called the Ford customer service line, they were useless but did document the problems.

I then called SVT and spoke to Troy, who called my service manager to see why it is still leaking. Troy called me back and told me the service manager thinks it is a clogged vent. I know the vent is clear, I checked it myself.

Well it is going back in tuesday for the 4th pinion seal. I have a feeling that they will make sure it is fixed right this time. I don't think they like getting a call from SVT. We will see, if it leaks again I am going to demand a whole new rear end.

I don't know why they can't get it to stop leaking, it has been leaking since the day I drove it off the lott. Becides that I have had no problems with the truck, but this is really frustrating.

I know the dealer must hate me, but I don't think I am asking for to much.

Don, lemon law! send ford a final repair demand letter, that usually gets the work done right. are you having this trouble with framingham ford? word on the street from another lightning owner is that their service dept is terrible and "he would tell everyone he knows not to do business with them."

Anyway, good luck and when you get some more info on that jersey trip let me know, i'm interested.

I don't think the lemon law will work for you. Mainly because of the incriminating evidence of you at the racetrack.

Racing can void your warranty.

What mods, I don't have any mods LOL

Plus it was leaking way before I did any mods.

Probie, look foward to seeing you if you go to NJ.

Keep after them Don, most dealers are incapable of wiping their A$$e$ by themselves. Them lemon laws are not worth the paper that they are printed on.

Have them replace the pinion yoke to.It might not of been machined rite from the factory and is causing the seals to fale[sp],I know that I have not had any problems with mine so,and you know how I drive it.Sounds to me that all they are doing is replacing the faulty seal but not the cause.Stan

Don, let me give you my thoughts as a former dealer tech, maybe it may help you decide what to do....

It's apparent that you current dealer is either incapable, or uninterested in fixing your problem. From what it sounds like, you've got another problem causing your leak. I would be easy to believe the first seal leaking from bad installation or defective part, but obviously something else is causing this. The only thing that usually causes that seal to leak, is up and down movement of the yoke. Either you have a pinion bearing issue where the yoke is not running true, or you have a defective housing, which is not likely.

So far, you have done the right thing. You gave the dealer several chances to fix the problem, before asking for a rep. What they told you about the rep only coming out every few months is BS. The reps come out when they are needed. They don't make "pre-scheduled" visits. It seems aparent that the dealer is not too interested in doing the right thing.

Calling the customer service hotline is pretty useless too, because all they do is call the dealer and get the same story the dealer gives you.

As for calling SVT, well, they really can't MAKE the dealers do anything. They can assist the dealer with parts and procedures that they may not be familiar with, but that's about it.

I think your best bet is to find another dealer willing to help you. Explain to them that the other dealer tried several times to fix the truck, and was unable to. It would also help to say that a customer of this new dealer gave high regards to thier service dept and that's why you are coming to a different dealer.

You can try to demand a new complete rear. I couldn't say if you'll get it or not, but I'll tell you what, we've put in quite a few complete warrenty rear ends at my dealer, it's not an uncommon thing.

Good luck, hope this helps, and let me know if I can be of further help.

Thanks Sal

I have tried to be patient with the dealer.

I talked to two other SVT dealers today and the soonest they could look at my truck is 3 weeks. I can't really wait that long, I had to put 20 ounces in it this past saturday. I am tempted to let it run dry, and let it blow up, but I am sure I will keep adding gear lube.

I know that calling the customer assistance center, and SVT are pritty useless, but I wanted SVT to know what one of there SVT dealers is doing, and to document the problems.

I think I am going to put up a big fight, and not let them fix it again, and demand a new rear end.

The dealer is Framingham Ford.

Don,

Food for thought...the last two dealerships that have worked on my truck were not SVT dealers. I got better service also.

Don, I as well have found that going to another dealer is the way to go.
Right before we sold our Cobra, it had an overheating problem.
It actually boiled over on me. Everything was fine, larger radiator, all that.
I took it to a local Ford dealer for warranty work, first thing they do is note that it has an "aftermarket" radiator, and that, that may be causing the prob.? ( Whatever?)
They determine everything is fine, no prob. found. (Right)
I then took it to a local Lincoln / Merc. dealer. (MarkVIII has a 32V)
They pressure test the system, lo and behold, the overflow cap is only holding 5psi, when it should be 14...
$5.00 later, I am out the door...!
Definitely, get a second opinion.

Another tip, if you don't daily drive the truck, if you take it in today, even though they say three weeks, they will more than likely work on it within a week. I tried this and sure enough they worked on my car the next day...
Worth a try..?

Good luck!

Brother, you sure have more patience than me, after the second time I would have been looking for a different dealer. Good Luck in your fight for Truth, Justice and the American Way

Don C,

I can recommend Portsmouth Ford, Portsmouth, NH. They are working hard to make sure their service keeps up with sales. Had some initial problems with them, but everything was worked out to my satisfaction.

I've never been there for service but I hear good things about Wall's Ford (Truck Center) in Salisbury, MA.

Tallimeca,

Can you recommend anyone?

Bob
