Thumbs up For those wondering about a 2002...

Just put a deposit down on a confirmed order for a 2002 Lightning in silver!!
We did the transaction on Monday night and it was confirmed on paper.
They said manufacturing should start in November, and ship date should be around March or April. (Long wait)
BTW MSRP is unchanged (????) Not sure why, but they confirmed it is the same as before ($32,400.00)
The sheet I looked at for options looked the same as the one that has been posted here before.
I only noticed that the CD changer is standard now, along with wheel locks.
The only two options besides the CA emissions stuff, is the tonneu (sp?) cover, and a front license plate mount.
New color is True Blue, and no more White.
For those of you looking for a rare combo, get the True Blue, because this may be the last year run for the GEN2's? (maybe)

That is all I know so far, I was able to get X-plan through EAA, no prob. But the 0% interest is only good for a 3 year loan! The 5 year plan is only good on cars and Vans...

Just an FYI!

BTW, our 2000 "L" is up for sale if anyone is interested...

Drkone:

Good to see someone else showing their faith in our economy. You got the 'right' color too.

Good luck,

Dan

That's great, congrats on your new 02' Lightning.

I am assuming you will not be paying the suggested MSRP/Sticker for your new 2002?
The SVT dealer in my area (Galpin Ford, Los Angeles) sez they never sell L's below sticker?

Do you know if the 02' or future models will have any other major changes?
Bumping the HP up to 400HP would be nice!!

The 2002s have 5 more HP, the 2003s I believe will have 3 valve heads (HP?). The CD changer should be standard as the 2001s it was with the only option being the bed cover.

Regards,

Doogie

Congrates on the new truck. Now the waiting is gonna be the hard part. The 99 was the only year that had the CD changer, towing package, and rear window tinted as an option. Ford saw that everyone was getting the trucks with all of that anyway so they made that stard on the gen 2's from 00 and up. On option i know of now is the tonneu cover.

Wow, thanks for the support!
Yeah, I love the 2000, but after seeing a silver 2001 locally, we just had to see about getting one!

Lightningrod: Heck yeah, can't let the bad get you down! Buy, and buy more! Let them know we will not be defeated!

Mr Tude: Thanks! Not with the "X" plan! That brings sticker down to about $28,800.00. Plus we are working with a salesperson that is a friend of ours...Helps with the little things.
I have no idea on the motor changes, they still rate them the same as the 2001, 380 HP, so I think there are only minor changes. Although "bumping" to 400, is fairly easy actually

Doogie: I hope that's true? I have read where it is the same as the 2001's, but hey 5HP is 5HP. That would be a nice bonus...
As far as the 2003's, well that would be great if they came out with 3V heads, but I have not heard anything about it? It would be cool if they did the 4V heads like the Navigator...?

Badazz: Thanks! Yeah, it hasn't hit me yet, as we still have the 2000 to refer to, but after we sell it, I will be longing for the new one...!

Logan: I saw a standard feature "keyless lighted entry" I am assuming it is the keypad. Still not sure if I will like that feature or not? I never really liked it on any other model...We'll see...

Don C: Yes, it will be a long wait!
I will try and post pics once I get it! Thanks!

Ford's website says no engine change will be made, exact same motor and drive-train will be used.

Congrats on your order. True Blue does have a nice ring to it. It was my understanding that the new 3V motor does go in till 03. But who knows?

Great! I guess I need to go put my order in. I've got some questions about ordering a vehical. (I could ask the dealer, but I will proably get better answers here.)

1. Drkone, you said you put down a deposit. Is it a % or some base amount like $500 or $1,000?

2. Do you get the current financing (sp) deals they have going on? (Please say yes.)

3. Is it possible to haggle with the dealer about the holdback? Is it 3% of invoice or caped at a standard amount?

4. Also on a wild card, the L spare tire is full size, but isn't it a dreaded 17" Wilderness AT? Can the dealer be talked into swapping with a matching spare?

Thanks for your help. I hope to go into the dealship and be able to get the deal that I want.

Mocklab: I'm not sure on the current deals, since we won't get actually financed until delivery, but I do beleive any specials should also apply with the SVT vehicles. Ask your dealer just to be sure...As far as 0%, well you have to take delivery on the truck by Oct. 31st, and it is only on a 3 year loan. This would disclude a 2002, unfortunately...
We put a standard $500.00 down to hold the truck. At first it was $1000.00 and refundable, due to the fact they were not sure if Ford was making the 02's, then once they knew, it changed to $500.00 and Non refundable...!
The holdback thing I am not familiar with, but I don't remember hearing anything about that in our conversations with the sales guy.
Lastly, not sure on the spare tire? You would probably have to pay extra for it? I looked under my 2000 the other night, and sure enough, Wilderness AT...?
Hope this helps?!

Thanks to the rest!

Thanks,
I figured the financing wouldn't carry over to 02. Just hoped that 'I would take it before Oct 31st if you had one, so why don't I get the deal?' would work, but didn't think it would.
The holdback, (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) is given to the dealer when he takes delivery. This is given to the dealer to offset taxes and property value to store the truck till sold. This can amount to something like $700. I'm not sure if its static or % of invoice. Sometimes you can talk the dealer out this when ordering because they don't store the truck at all, you take it first thing in the morning .

Holdback

Ford's Holdback is 3% of MSRP from what I understood when I bought my Screw. I believe that it is the same across all makes and models.

so bascially on an order, they're already making some nice coin, for the one day that your truck would spend on their lot until you pick it up.....Most likely they won't deduct it from the bottom line, but if you at least mention that you're aware of it, they won't try to bend you over too much more.
