Back to stock or not?
Back to stock or not?
What is the general concensus on going in for the intercooler replacement? Are you going back to stock? This will be the first trip to the dealer since buying it.
Not me, I left everything in place. Of course I did have 35,000 miles on it so I only had 1000 miles left anyway. They never hooked it up to a computer to do the intercooler and never said a word about mods.
I just took mine in for the fix and put everything back to stock except the Oval T/B and air filter. If you have the time to do it, you might as well not give the dealer a chance to void your warranty. It really wasn't that bad to put the stock pulley and 80mm MAF / boot back on, a little over an hour.
Oh, and pull the chip too

I'd for sure take off the Bilsteins...they may void the warranty on the blower for those.
I know that sounds stupid, but after reading some of the posts about dealer service, I'm convinced that it depends on the dealer, and some of them are nutty as hell. Have you ever taken it to this dealer before? Do you know what their attitude is? Do you feel lucky?
My L has a totally stock powertrain, so I'm not sweating them voiding the warranty. I'm just wondering what they're gonna break while they fix the defective parts, and how greasy and dirty my truck will be when I get it back.

I'm almost done putting mine back to stock.
electric fan, chip, upper pulley, lower pulley, ngk's, 160* thermostat, ram air, B&M tranny pan, tranny line valve, caltracs, rear intercooler cooler, differential cover, borla, drive shaft loop, drop shackles, 2* shims, optima battery. I'm just glad I didn't install the headers!
I think it is best to ake it as close to stock as possible before taking it in.

It just depends on how well you know the dealership. If you have never had them do anything for you before, I would definitely go back at least mostly stock (stock air filter, no chip, stock pulley, for sure). Just my .02...and speaking from experience.

I just had my 2nd IC and a cylinder head replaced last week, and I put it all back to stock except for the shift kit and tranny pan (becuase without a chip it doesn't shift that hard). They never mentioned anything, and if they had I would have just said that I put the tranny pan on it so I could drain and change the fluid myself (which is why I bought it). If I was you, I would put it back as close to stock as possible. Why even give a dealer the chance to void your warranty? Exactly.

Go back to stock or at least as close as possible. A shift spool in the gearbox may not be worth it on a blower issue, but anything that gets there attention will only get them to start snooping around for excuses to void.
ALWAYS REMEMBER The mechanic gets less time to do the same job and makes less money pr hour if the job is considdered to be a warrentee. If he can find any reason to void the warrentee HE personaly makes more money.
