M.A.F. question
there are ALOT of people that make 90mm MAFs you dont (maybe shouldn't) buy one from FORD. JDM, PSP, JL, i think that i could honestly name about 5 or 6 more. From what i know there is HARDLY a difference. I hope that someone will correct me on this. Also Mike from performance says that the 80mm will suffice until you reach the 450hp mark, BUT there is a difference if you are running a larger lower pulley due to the added airflow. Again as i said in your other post i'd take it VERY easy on your truck until you reburn your chip for the added airflow. with a 100shot of nitrous, a new intake, and a 90mm MAF you are pushing limits.
I would highly recommend buying a Ford MAF if you are going to buy one. I'm not sure exactly what 5 or 6 different meters that Spade$ is talking about, but the only two that I know of are C&L and Pro M. Some people have had good success with the Pro M, but at least as many others have had lean conditions with them due to the fact that the Pro M was designed to work on Mustangs, not Lightnings. Often you'll have to purchase a chip or have your chip reburned to compensate. Fords electronics calibration equipment is far superior to what any of the aftermarket companies can do.
The Ford unit is the only way to go. If I'm not mistaken, I think that this is the one that several of the tuners are selling anyway.
Also you should be able to pick one up from your ford dealership for around $180-220 dollars. which is about the same or less than you can get one from a tuner, plus the Ford one comes complete with the 2001 airbox and tube to the fender, and even an air filter.
just my .02

All of the major tuners use the FORD 01 MAF...mainly because it is the only one avilable. There are NOT 5 or 6 more choices. LOL
If you buy a MAF from your local dealer, it will be the same thing available from ANY company. Dont isten to everything yuo read, the stock meter is all I ran!

You will need your chip tuned for the MAF sensor, so you may as well just get it from a tuner. It's about the same price. I believe JL has a chip and 90mm MAF package if you don't have a chip yet. http://www.johnnylightningperf.com If so, just send your chip to your tuner and have him program it for the 90mm and ship your chip and the sensor back. Seem's like the most logical way. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info
Hey guys thanks for the info ,Lucky for me Im right down the street from diabloperformance, the same place JL gets his from..And dont worry ill have that chip reburned well before I install the nos and 90mm
I just did this yesterday so heres what I know. I bought the Ford 90 MM maf. It listed for 140+ I paid 120. Jim is here from JDM and told me what he pays for the Ford unit and I about fell over. Talk to him if we ever let him leave Texas, Once you get it you will notice it has a flat flange to bolt to the stock box. I went to Home Depot, Lowes, and a plumbing supply house and couldn't find anything to mate to it so I took it to my sponsors shop and ground the flange off on a bench sander. Found a long K & filer with a 3 3/4 opening that went right over the maf ground down end. 4" clamp came with filter worked fine. I didn't buy the new 90 mm maf rubber that goes to the throttle body because some said you can the 80 mm tube over the 90 mm maf. This is true however I needed to remove the tube so I could hold it against my chest with filter in my hand and screwdriver in right hand and work it on. Lube tube with Joy or something. Old clamp will have to be taken apart, unscrew all the way, but can be reused and will work fine. Jim reburned my chip last night. Put it all on today and works great. Going to track tonite and see. Jim has the flanged part that will mate to the maf and the filters. It would have been easier to buy it all from him, but you know, I wanted it like NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Works great.
