3.73 gears
the differnence between a 3.73 and a 3.55 ratio is nominal. spend your cash elsewhere. there are plenty of 99-00 L's hauling as$ without gear changes. Not to mention that this swap is not the least expensive thing you can do. The gears aren't cheap and the labor isn't cheap either. Do what you want, but there are better things to spend your cash on.

good 4th mod
After chip, filter, pulley, and MAF, there isnt much left (excluding NOS) that will make a big difference for under $500. However, gears would be the next best thing if you've already done the top 4 mods.
I agree with Nathan. I've done the big four and am now saving my nickles and dimes for the gears, and Jim told us hes got some new 15" wheels that will fit the L without shaving the calipers. Wow, 373s and 28" slicks, wheres that ski mask, I need more money.

I did the 3.73's about 3 months after I bought the truck...way back in the day.
In my personal opinion, they are well worth the money, and I easily seen a improvement in my 60', as well as the end of the 1320
Ask yourself this...."Why did FORD install the 3.73's in the 01's?" We need all we could get to get these heavy pigs off the line. IMO
