Hey Stan, that's a great link, it might just be a "reality check" for people to actually see real life accidents from high speeds. I for one don't think you are stupid for caging your truck. For what you do, it's what's needed to keep you safe. We are doing a cage in our 01 test truck as well. I really don't want to, but it's a must now that we are in the 11 second zone. If NHRA says you need it, it's for safety, not because they are trying to be a pain in the butt :-).

I thought just the opposite. I would have guessed that most here would love to have a nice cage like yours. I would.

I sure hope your friend recovers.

I think the key to that problem, is to drive at a reasonable rate of speed. You might think you have to go 165mph, because your truck can do it, but the truth is, you are better off doing 65mph, and doing us all a favour. It's the idiots who feel that they need to keep the throttle wide open, or go so slow that they hold up traffic, that is the reason why a lot of these accidents happen.

I guess you just can't teach people common sense... it's something your born with, and i don't see a lot of it in this forum.

Stupid? Probably not. Weird or demented? Possibly. Anybody who wants to cruise along at 150 mph or higher for extended periods of time on two lane roads has got my vote for needing a wee bit of analysis.

Sorry to hear about your friends. Hopefully everything works out in the end.

Good luck on your quest!!

Stan !

Stan,

What's up ? I haven't heard from you in a while. Congrats on your wins in Nevada.

Although I'm not a 2G L owner (debating very seriously about the '02 True Blue L, though), I think Stan's truck and his full roll-cage is a work of art and took alot of planning, work, etc. It's amazing to see in person. I've got a ton of high-res pics of it at almost every angle from Hallett Racing Circuit here in Tulsa. If anyone wants them, you can email me at downtowngbrown@sbcglobal.net.

Email me sometimes Stan when you're returning to Hallett and we'll hook up.

Later,

Ronald...

Why would anyone want to run excessive speeds in a non-specific built car is beyond my comprehension? I can't fathom why people want to take a production and try to run 200+ mph. One has to expect the worst of something like the above does happen. I hate that they were injured but they have to own up to what COULD happen. In this case, it's not the worst scenario but it's close.

I've gotta buddy that wants me to co-pilot in the Silver State Classic in his modified ZR-1... don't think so just for the above reason.

I've always liked the cage that you dropped in your truck, very nice.

I've been backing away from the thoguhts of going too fast in my truck now, I did a bit of "frills" work for it, and have made it more of a driving vehicle then racing vehicle...appearance mods, stereo, etc.

It's good for autocrossing, and the occasional 80mph run at pocono lawn, but I think I'd go pick up a different car for doing something faster... As much as I'd love to make my truck into a race vehicle, I also love driving it everyday. Maybe I need two Lightnings.

I'll stick to my autocrossing...the most you usually ruin there are tires.

Hope your friends are OK Stan.

Daniel

EVERYONE who is in the Tech speed of 165 and many in the 140 tech speeds DO realize what the possiblities are and try and take measures to eliminate them.I for one trailer the truck there on one set of tires and have the race ones in the back of the truck for them to tech. Then the nite before the event I install them I also run a tire monitoring system and nitrogen in them. And to top that all off I run the tires at best 3 times depending on my trap speeds then scrap them. They still have the tire **** on them when I am done with them. But not worth the price to pay.If you saw the regulars that do these events you would see that safty is FIRST in their minds as well.
When I was searching for a nav I informed anyone who was willing to try about the safty that I required and what could happen in an event as this.
We have 2 planes over hd 5 ambulances on station and a life flight helo.Even if you station the them evenly apart over a 90 mile course you could be in that vehicle[I hope] for as long as 10minutes before help can get there.
Am I crazy? Yes at times I think I am but I try and be safe about it to.
