Kicked an Acura NSX?
Out for lunch cruising back to the office last Friday. A "worked on", purple NSX turned right going in my same direction. The 20 something driver had his window down when we hit the first light behind some cars. He was on my right at, from the height of NSX cars, about Lightning exhaust high. Couldn't resist myself and goosed it a bit to wake him up. I bet that 400hp hot blast got his attention. I then took off and positioned myself into the fast lane of this divided highway as he did the same in the slow lane. It took a fast getaway to accomplish this so we could be first at the next light.
As we pulled up to that light we gave each other "the look". As the day was about 100o, I was doing more than a little hoping my power boost would hold up OK. Without any power braking since the street was real hot an at a typically slick intersection with white lines and all we were off.
I pulled him through my first gear about one truck length without to much wheel spin. My red, chipped, 90mm MAF, header and Borla exhaust 1999.5 was running heavy since I had just filled up and had a full tankload, even so, it gave a nice squeel going into second. But his second was real strong and I could see he was starting to pull me real fast. As he got to my front fender he shifted into third and began to fall back again. That NSX sure had a strong second though.
I shut down just before the normal wide open shift into third. Not sure of the speed, but my guess it was around 80 or so. If anyone knows, I would appreciate that info. I have stock 3.55's and tires. Overdrive was off.
Anyway, he pulled up next to me and motioned for me to roll down the window. At that point I remembered I still had the air on, but he had that "damn, that's a fast truck" look on his face but said he had blown third. That meant he had one of the fast NSX's with a stick. We didn't have time to talk more cause as the light turned green we hit it again. He took off with a shot and I just sat there spinning my wheels and not moving. All I could guess was a bunch of oil was on the spot I was trying to get a grip on. As I slowly moved forward while smoking up the intersection and polluting the air with the distinctive wide open blower sound. Just then, I spoted a Cal. Highway Patrol car going in the other direction.
My heart stopped a second as he looked me in the eye and jerked his wheel, but he was through the intersection and could'nt turn now for at least 1/8th mile. By that time I turned left and got into a parking lot off the street. The NSX was about a 1/4 mile straight ahead and flying. I'm not sure he saw the cop, but I'm sure he got away too.
What do you think? Was the "missed third" excuse ligitimate?

Haha good job man. You gotta give those people at Honda credit when they designed that v-tec, some of those cars really move when they tweak when the v-tec kicks in. Hope no one like dark_horse rains on your parade like they did mine, so anyway nice kill man!

A friend of mine has an NSX, but his would blow away most Lightnings. He is a good driver and it dynoed 435 hp. Ruslow and I have been trying to talk him into trailering it to a road racing event. I hope to fly out to Springfield soon to go for a ride in it.

Ok so you whipped an NSX in a truck with 1.5x the horsepower and 2x the torque, wow not a surprise. Now put the two on a track with twists and curves and there should be a totally different outcome. Nothing Honda/Acura has EVER made is good for straight line racing.
You also left out that the truck is as aerodynamic as a brick.

The lightning was made for drag racing. Even though she does handle great for a truck the Gen 1's are better at the twists and curves.

you also forgot to add that a lightning costs less than half of what an NSX does. I am impressed. For 80k, my car had damn well either be a benz, rolls, or fast enough to beat a truck.
