I thought that,s what this forum was for ......
I think KlutzEnhiemer my have taken offence when someone suggested he search a little before opening a new thread.
Yes, this site is for 'swapping, trading, etc...', but most every subject had been covered MANY times and there is a wealth of information to be discovered behind the search button. Check it out, bring something interesting back to the top, add a wrinkle, start a thread on a new topic, but don't get pissed if us old timers (I'm turning 50 this week so I'm sensitive) get tired of seeing new threads like: 'My F1's are bald, wadda I do?'

I see a big problem in discouraging new comers from asking questions. Granted, there are times that the "which oil filter?" questions get old, but I'd rather ignore those posts than rail on a new member. Besides, what if there is a new oil filter out there? Are you hardcore guys saying that oil filters, tires, oil, etc. can no longer be discussed because it was already covered 2 years ago? That is, IMHO, totally outside of the spirit of what an Internet discussion board should be.
IMHO, the other real problems with "search first, and only post new subjects" attitude is that some of the information archived on this board is either stale or flat out incorrect. Just because it has been said before here does not make something automatically true. There is alot of disinformation here, both intentional and un-intentional. In addition, time and experience can lead to a change in opinion on a subject. Should we just keep those new experiences with old subjects to ourselves because it has already been talked about last year? I say NO.
New guys, keep coming with the new ideas and questions.

mracer - I agree with you, but there some questions that just push people over the edge. By those I mean questions that have specific, 1 post answers with no opinions needed. Any other question that can have different opinions as time change I don't care how bad it gets beat to death, theres at least 1 new insight on those.

Indeed, my friend, indeed. Through all of the crackling static, you come through loud and clear.
There is a disconcerting amount of (steaming piles of feces) here passed off as "fact". Simply because it's been stated means IN NO WAY that it's fact or even useful in some manner.
This has been a personal crusade of mine, and I will continue to fight the battles when and where they flare.
Plenty have been duped by out-and-out misinformation, plenty more will be duped, and plenty are eager to dupe. Then there are those simply too ignorant to recognize that what they post (typically via the cut-and-paste) is complete hooey and obviously so to most, but unfortunately not all, members of this 'board.
A search is worth nothing, or indeed less than nothing, if it turns up incorrect garbage (likely), out-of-date information (likely), or out-and-out malicious misinformation (possible, I suppose).
Incidentally, the keyword for what you're complaining about (uninformed, incorrect, horse-poop) is "Internet Research". Drop this term when appropriate - we'll know what you mean.

I understand about the limited value of a search on tuning or mod topics....but there is no excuse for not doing a little backgroud before ask "Hey guys, what's this x-plan thing I keep hearing about". Even on these there is a lot of bad info. but it usually gets flushed out by the end of the thread.
All I've ever asked is that people (on straight forward issues) do a search first so they can ask a little more fine-tuned question.
And what none of us needs is anyone being rude to those who skip the search....a gentle suggestion is all that is ever called for.

There is nothing wrong with a pleasant reminder that we are proud of the work that went into the FAQ and the 140852 posts already in the Forum.
Many newbies ignor the FAQ link and have no idea the wealth of info out there. The search and FAQ make it real easy to look like a Lightning God on your first post. I agree with Logical - Do a little research and ask a specific question or for clarification and you will look like a genius. Yep there is some real crap out there in the threads and some out of date stuff -
Dredge it up and ask - " Is this crap " -
