5.4 motor rebuilders in the chicagoland area???

Ok I need to have my motor rebuilt this winter and I was going to have a guy I know rebuild it for me, but he recently quit the buisness and doesn't do it anymore at all. I would drive a few hundred miles but I'm not going down to kentucky, you kow what I mean.

So if any of you guys know of a good guy to rebuild the modular motors, which it probably doesn't matter if they do modular or not. I just don't want to take my motor in for new rods and pistons and get a bill for $5,000.00 for a $2,000.00 job. And I want quality work so I would be willing to pay a little more to get a better job.

Thanks guys for any input you can give me. Hopefully this rebuild will take allot more abuse and give me some extra power also. We'll see?

Try: http://www.dssracing.com/
They are close and have done a ton of 4.6 modulars with great results. Ask for Tom or Ron.

RTKILLA, what happened? Any chance for a free Ford rebuild at the local dealer?

Joe,
D.S.S. does good work with the 5.0 & 4.6 motors so they should be able to hook you up... They are less than 1 mile from me... Also E&R Racing in Villa Park does alot of Camaro's and Mustang's but are working on my buddies '01 L... Once he gets it back i'll let you know how it turned out...

Later, Justin

I called up D.S.S. and talked to them about my motor and what to do with it.

Basically they just told me to clean it up a bit, put some oliver rods in there, and some new J&E pistons with a 9.4 to 1 compression ratio. Of course there would be new stronger ARP bolts installed also.

Now I'm just trying to figure out what I want to do with my heads. My friend Mike from High flow Heads told me to do a set of the navigator heads and don't even touch them, gut can the navigator heads fit on a regular 5.4 block. And also, This stock blower won't match up with the ports either, I would think so anyway.

So I'm really hoping Sal can deliver on his regrinding of these stock cams to get me some Monster HP. Chit who knows, I might get another 100hp with a compression boost and new cam's, IN MY DREAMS, that would be cool as hell though.

Anyway, thanks guys. I've heard of D.S.S. before but I never thought to call them about modular motor stuff. Now its time to figure out the tranny build up, hopefully after this winter she'll be a new beast with a bigger and badder attitude.
