fuel filter.......

I bot one today from a dealer--getting ready to replace it soon--have 11,400 miles on her.

I can't believe just how SMALL this little filter is(p/n FG-986B)! The filter on my 91 Z281LE with a 305ci eng. was bigger than this? Shouldn't this tiny-tubed 'tomato-juice can' reduce fuel pressure and flow???

Inquiring minds want to know....

Dan

Even during WOT, you have about 15%, or more, of your fuel returning to the fuel tank. No need to worry about restrictions.

Whitestx is wrong. You do have something to worry about. Look under a chevy 1500 and the filter you see is twice the size of ours. Many are having hesitation troubles and stalls and when they remove the fuel filter and blow thru it its clogged and a new filter fixes the problem. Ford recommends change of fuel filter at 15K. I just changed mine second and it had been in 15k and it was really bad. Several of us and a ford truck service manager have decided that changing at 10k is where they need to be changed.

Don't forget besides the external clamps you need the special tool that slips up in the hose and releases the internal clamp in the hose.

...and it's really easy to do. It'll take less than 3 mins to do it. I wish the spark plugs were that easy

Thanks guys..

yea, I have the 'tool' because I have a 97 f150, 4.6L and have changed it's filter--btw, it's the same as the Ls 5.4L filter. Hmmmm, it took me longer than 10 mins. on the 97 truck? Too bad I don't get paid by the hour--LOL!

noelvm,
The question wasn't about a "clogged" filter, but a new filter. The filters are designed, when new, to flow much more than the engine could ever use.
I don't disagree, changing it more often than what's recommended isn't a bad idea, it won't hurt it, that's for sure.
