11secL, Good to hear it. I was out there last year with a team from EWTGLANT. Nice place. Great beaches and clubs. See you in the fleet.

Maggies drawers! HA! We used to rag the guys when they had that lollipop swinging in front of the target!

I hate to fill you all in, but they CAN recall you even past the 8 year window. My wife was recalled during Desert Storm, within the 8 year window. About two weeks after she left, I got a telegram and was required to confirm information and specific qualifications due to "potential recall to active duty - for and undetermined period of time".

Things ended quick and I didn't have to go. My wife said there were 35 year old E-3s that had been recalled after being out 10-12 years. No BS.

But why worry, my last command was at 1st SRI Group. What's the chances? (Don't answer that one.......)

I got pretty lucky. My inactive reserve time ended on September 03 2001. I would be in the same boat. Theres no way I could afford a mortgage and truck and motorcycle payment along with supporting my wife on E-5 pay. The reason I didnt reenlist was because of the money in the first point...

yes new commitment is 8 yrs, and yes they can call you up past that date but the chances become much slimmer.
if they recall you, you will get info to give all your creditors as well as employers, that will help with loans and the fact they can't take your job. they must also give you any raises you would have gotten while serving.
when i got recalled for saudi i had a loan through chrysler credit they automatically worked out a new payment schedule for me without my even asking. i just called to tell them i was recalled and that my interest rates should drop.
those of you self employed probably have no recourse for saving your business unless you sign power of attorney to someone else to run it. when i went back in i was driving truck for a man who owned only one rig, so i told him not to worry about the job thing. hard for him to find a new driver on a temporary basis.
only ones who will get recalled are generally combat arms. the worst part of the whole thing is they also recall those who got kicked out. talk about lousy attitudes.

good luck,
terry

I'm in the active reserves. They have been asking for volunteers to go active for a while. Anywhere from 15 - 179 days. Depends on the job to be filled.

I'm waiting for the call. And will go for my country.

As far as the money, I'm a computer guy (IT support, networks, computers, etc..), and will lose money on anything over 3 months. My employer will match pay for up to 3 months, which is great.

I'm ready!

What branch are you in? I was just figuring if you were Air Force you were either a 3C0 or 3C2. I was a 3C0 for 4 years and then got out a year ago yesterday!!!!!! It is good that your company will match your pay, IBM will too. Hope they have enough volunteers, I like my job and life out here. Later.

Go Navy! I'm a Cryptolic Technician (Technical), or CTT if there are any other Sailors out there.

Same here with regards to life. I like my job, and hate to leave. But if duty calls...

Snake,
I was a 3CO52 back in 98. You work for IBM I assume then. Do you know a guy named Brian Andrzejewski? It was a guy I worked with that works for IBM now in Ohio I think...

Programmer?

1998Nastruck.
So, you were a programmer in the Air Force is I can remember my ASFC's right? If that is the case you went to TechSchool at Keesler AFB in Mississippi? As for Brin Andrzejewski he doesn't work in Ohio but I did find one that was in Indianapolis so that may be your guy. He is a Project Manager or something. Take it easy.

Talking

All right Marines,

I am showing my age, was seperated from the USAF during Vietnam, but did 8 years total active service. I got out at 25 years old (1969), and had to sign up for the draft...the only thing is that women and children went first

I thank all those that have risked their/our lives for American freedoms...i.e. first and second amendments.

Cheers,

...Dwight...Cuban Missle & Vietnam daze guy!

Wink

I was in the National Guard, six by two, Was on alert for Desert Storm but I have been out long enough now to not have to worry about it. If they called me I would drop everything and go in a second. Your County comes first, everything else come second...

Well....

I'm active duty with 20 years in next month. They just froze all retirements/separations for the time being (special circumstances will be evaluated).

I just got back from 110 days in Saudi (was also there for Desert Shift/Storm), so I won't be going anywhere to soon but I'm more then ready and willing if needed....

God Bless America
