Windshield Upper Trim ?
I've read in several posts where the windshield upper rubber trim comes loose at high speeds
and although I haven't opened it up for a while, this piece is flapping around now, with only connections to the side trim holding it on. Sounds like someone is beating the roof of the truck with a rubber mallet at any speed over 30.
I'd rather not take the truck into the dealer unless I have to...so is there a particular type of glue or epoxy that I can use to reattach the trim? Or is there some 'special' glue that Ford uses to attach the trim (which really couldn't be that good if it's already loose on a truck with 11,000 miles)?
Thanks!

go to a place that replaces automotive glass.. they should have some sealant to glue the trim back down.. prolly wont cost too much either.
or you can just ask them what they use & go buy a comparable product at a auto parts store.

An examination of this trim piece will reveal that part of it fits around the top edge of the windshield. The ONLY way to properly install this piece is to have the windshield out, put the trim piece on and then push windshield against properly gooped frame.
The workaround for this is to take a razor blade and cut two sides of the channel out of the rubber trim strip leaving a thin straight piece that will lay up against the top edge of the windshield. Then take the goop they use, WHICH IS NOT SILICONE, DON'T USE SILICONE, goop both sided of thin part of frame on both sides of the channel where the trim strip goes in. Reinstall trim strip by going from one side to the other pushing down into channel in frame. Put 100 mile an hour tape over entire top trim strip attaching to windshield and roof. Leave tape on for 24 hours. Do not drive truck at high rate of speed until tape is removed. Take alcohol and remove tape glue from roof and windshield. Rewax roof. There is a channel that the Roof trim strip goes in on the frame. It is not advisable to put goop in this channel but on both sides of the channel otherwise the next guy who does your windshield will say bad things about you and your mother.

I thought about buying a new trim strip for the next time I get a new windshield; however, this piece has come out on both the windshields in this truck and the modified strip seems to be working fine so I may just make sure the next windshield is installed by the same guy who knows the drill.

Actually Noel, what you posted usually applies to most windshields, but not on our trucks. That top strip doesn't go behind the glass like pretty much every other vehicle on the planet does. It really just glues in the space between the glass and the cab. Pretty dumb if you ask me. When mine was going bad, it stretched, so I ordered a new one, and the glass place we use came down to the dealer and installed it with a high quality urethane glue. So far so good

Well the one in my truck had the channel because the installer showed it to me and I watched him cut it out. Whether Ford or the last installer of the current new windshield used the wrong strip, I don't know.
Hey DB, does yours have the channel in the rubber like it goes around the windshield or is it just flat? Yea Sal, Urethane Glue, aka, GOOP.
