late, but i made it

So when the gen 2 lightning came out I wanted one bad, 2 young kids and priorities kept me from getting one. (that and Money)

So lately I wanted a single cab, short bed truck and i started looking. 70's chevys, 454 ss, then the lightning. the L just made too much sense. So I found a low mile 2004, 23k miles and it is mine. I love it, plan to put 1000 to 1500 miles a year on it. Leaving it as stock as possible. But I have to tell you , not as fast as I wanted.

My plan is to put a 4# pulley and a dyno tune on it. That is all I want or plan to do. Have no desire to go into the motor and honestly at this point, my un modified truck is much more rare than the heavy modified ones. I will save and store the factory pulley.

So unless I can be told different, I am going with 4# pulley and tune and new plugs, hoping for a 13.4 to 13.2 truck and just enjoy it on Sunny days.. what do you think?

btw, dont want a cai, want it stay with that stock look and I don't think they do much anyway.

Speaking from experience, I'd suggest the following :

Valve body, 4x4 pan and larger transmission cooler - I bought mine as a kit and it came with braided stainless lines that connected to the factory cooling lines. Looked absolutely factory.

Skip the 4 lb and go with a 6 lb. A good tuner will safely net you over 400 HP at the wheels and a perfectly safe AFR across the whole RPM band.

I agree about the CAI. Same with exhaust. You can safely get to 400 HP at the wheels with the factory parts, if your tuner knows what they are doing.

I put over 160,000 on my '04 configured like this and it was still running perfectly when I traded her off last month.

Congrats on the low mileage score. Enjoy it !!

395 rwhp , 489 rwtq

this is what people are talking about when they talk about the lightning. not a lot of mods to make great, usable power.

The guys at PSI just did a perfect job and turned it around very fast.

20" reproduction 03-04 rims should be be in this month, need to put in the rear suspension drop and then It is the way it should be (for me)

I am saving everything , boxing, lableing so that I can put it back to stock.
