A Fast One!

2K':

That's humming, Chief. You have a fast one, for sure. In fact, that's just about the quickest TRUE stocker I've heard of.

Can you clue me in regarding track location and atmospheric conditions at the time of your pass? I'm gearing up to lay down some similar times with my stocker in the next few weeks. Should have hit the track Saturday, in fact.

Perhaps we could start a "non-tuner" war, or something. We could argue about who doesn't tune their bone-stock truck the best, and who makes the fastest non-acessories. In fact, if you're anywhere near Cincy, we could arrange for a "Silver-vs-2K shootout" to determine who resists modification best, or something...

Not sure of humidity or barometer, but temp was 55 degrees, track was cold, but they had so much vht on the track that i had no problem hooking up. All my other runs that night were 13.60 -13.63. I launch at 1,200 rpms, and then just flog it. I opened my tailgate and folded in my mirrors. I am no where near cincy, but we can talk thrash about who has the faster truck, that is always good for some motivation....

Oh Yeah!

Chief:

Sounds like an ideal day to be at the track. Don't get too many of those.

Good looking out on the mirrors - I don't see a lot of folks going with that one. The tailgate, although seemingly logical, actually slows you down a bit and looks pretty poor, also. Leave it up.

Have you adjusted your boost actuator? That won't affect your "amateur status" and will get you a smidgen of ET.

Actually, you need to mod up like crazy. That will remove one formidable obstacle in my quest for the world's fastest stocker - you.

Thanks!

'Coleman:

Thanks for the shout-out, buddy! I try my best around here to keep it lively, informative, and fun. Some get it, some don't.

Much tougher to have a fast stocker than a fast one with mods. A chip can cover a multitude of sins. You wouldn't believe my routine for squeezing every drop of potential out of my "virgin" truck.

You'll find that the few of us with true stockers pay a good bit of attention to the Weather Channel. If the mercury drops and the baro rises, my azz is off to the test-and-tune, as that's my only hope to go faster.

Still working on the "ultimate ram air" fabrication. After that, it's buh-bye to the "stock gig" forever.

Anyway, kudos again to our boy "2KL" - that's a BLAZING time for a stocker.

Boost Actuator!

2K':

There is a so-so thread on this available through the "search" function (don't want to sound like "you-know-who" here), but I think that Speedin' Bob is the recognized expert on this and should be able to hook you up with some better (MUCH better) information.

When you adjust it, go just as greedy as you possibly can without building boost at a 75 MPH highway cruise.

Adjusted thusly, i just have to BREATHE on the pedal at highway speeds to get full boost. Also, If I power-brake the launch at the 'strip or on the street, I come out of the hole at full boost and BLAZE the tires off the thing. Fun! The boost hits MUCH quicker under any throttle input, although maximum boost is necessarily largely unchanged. My 60-foot times, on the balance, have improved by about 0.04 seconds or so (VERY UNSCIENTIFIC), adjusted for conditions.

Sir Speedy - you out there, bud?

2kL,

The actuator mod is quite simple and, although I have en-Lightened a couple of folks and tweaked their machines, I must give credit where credit is due.

To save from authoring a book, check out Chuck's (LTNBOLT) How-To on his site Here.

The only other thing I would add is a tool list (all 3/8") and tips below :

1 - 10mm socket
1 - Universal joint
1 - 5-inch extension
1 - driver

Addtional tippage:

Use the universal on the bolt closest to the throttle body then remove it and snake the extension in for the bolt closest the firewall (it will fit and keeps the socket steady). You'll see.

I found it best if the 'lever' is barely above the set screw however you may have to tweak it a bit.

Tighten the TB bolt first, then the firewall bolt. Test at around 75 to 80 mph. The needle should be off the bottom juuuuuust barely. Anymore than that and your too greedy.. Re adjust as necessary.

Best of luck to ya.
