So...should I buy one of these things?!

Looking for the fast but functional second car, and by the way it would be nice to take my two German Shpeherds with me as well. I'm a bit scared off by the service page. Sounds like a lot of clunks and cracking going on with this truck. It will be my primaary car, with about a 30 mile roundtrip to work each day. Oh ya, I have to go over a major hill. We have a 65 Stingray, a 67 Camero, and a 97 Subaru Outback. Is the Lightning the right addition for us?

Test drive

One more thing. My local dealer won't allow a test drive. How do you by a car you can't drive first!!

Welcome
The Lightning sounds like a good match. Get a 2001 and the intercooler issues wont matter. The other issues are similar to any mass produced vehicle. The folks here are a very attentive group. They spend hours waxing, shining and going over their trucks with magnifying glass.

Most important is to find good dealer - Find folks here who are near you and can recommend a good dealer to buy from

Good Dealers

Tabks Doug for your quick response! I live in the east bay outside of San Francisco in Walnut Creek. How do I find the SVT mechanic/dealer for my area.

Spend a day or 2 reading here. I am sure that an F150Online member in that area would step forward to offer a ride or drive if you cant get a dealer to help.

I had the same problem when I was looking at the Lightning's. They wouldn't let me test drive it and I couldn't rev the motor over 2000 rpm. I had keys in hand and was fixing buy it when they said my credit wasn't good enough. My opinion is, I believe the Lightning would be a great addition to anyone's garage. I will be a lightning owner soon. It may be another couple of years down the road, but it will happen. Good luck and enjoy.

2001 or wait for the 2002

Since we are coming up on the end of the model year, do I go for the 2001 or wait for the 2002. Though I have been told those won't shipped till March or so of 2002.

Arrow 2001 or 2002

The differences, I believe, are:
1) new wheels ?
2) new color (metallic blue replacing white)
3) locking lugnuts standard
4) keyless entry keypad

You might get a 2001 for a good price right now vs. an unknown delivery date at full price. If you want blue however...

East Bay Dealership

Pamelak - I was raped by Shamrock Ford/ Auto Nation in Dublin. I would not recommend going there to buy a lightning. I can only blame myself because I was the one who paid but anyway - check out this link as it may be usefull. Wish I would have read it before I bought my 01 L. Good Luck.

Pamelak:

try to get 'a hold of' Spike Engineering. I believe he lives at Walnutty Creek too? Seems like a nicw, knowledgeable L owner--of course, he's awfully young(getting back at him for an earlier post-LOL) and has some wierd dogs......

Get the truck! I ordered mine after having only driven one(Mondo 1 was to pick it up that afternoon after having flown into Atl. from Miami--he wanted one badly) for about 5 or 6 mins--never going over 60mph. I've had many vehicles over the years, and this is the ONE that sticks out!
