Anylone notice how the blower injects noise in a CB?

One other comment from my recent trip. When the blower is on the boost, the noise it transmits into my CB is overwhelming. I am using one of the 12 V. accessory plugs for power. Which reminds me, I wish Ford would have made at least one of the plugs switched, insead of always on.

I thought those things went out of style back in the 70's! I was still just a kid, but when I think of CB's, I think of the movie smokey and the bandit.
Breaker 1-9,Breaker 1-9.....some ford truck just blew my Trans Am off the ********** road.......over!

I've got a Ranger 2950 mounted on the trans. hump with a Wilson Trucker 2000 ant. on the front bed rail. I thought the 'noise' I hear was from the alt.? I'll pay more attention on the way to work tomorrow. Mine is also plugged in to the power port.

What are you runnin' for a radio? I'm 'renegade' on I-75.

That has got to be the ignition or something electrical like the alternator. Get yourself a noise filter.

Usually a "whine" in electronics that follows engine RPM is from it not being properly grounded. Connect to a better ground or run a ground from the CB to a better ground.

CB??? I really hope that you dont have one of those like 5 ft anttenas on top of the truck do you ? I mean i cant even stand looking at the anttena for the radio it would clean the truck up so much more if they would have shaved that off and stuck the anttena in the windshield.

Radar detectors are nice; but, if you really want to keep up with the speed traps, a CB is the only way to go. I have a Galaxy 33 with an antenna that looks like the old cell phone type ones. I can talk and hear for miles with it.

Fuel Pump

The noise is from the fuel pump. There's a TSB out for it.

CBs good, radar det. good together BEST!

Thanks for the feedback, especially about the tsb. Experience has taught me that while Valentines (or lesser units) are invaluable, sometimes the CB is way ahead of the game. I just take a handheld, lay it on the seat and listen, although the Galaxy 33 sounds like a neat antenna. Besides, if you ever have a problem and you are not in a cell phone area, a CB is really nice (and they are so cheap on ebay).

BadAzz516:

My ant. is about 4 ft. high. I found an ant. mount that 'grips' the bed rail and does not mar the finish--it's the only one of dozens I've investigated that holds a 5 ft. ant, is small(unobtrusive), grounds well, and has a 'satin', low-gloss finish. The Wilson coil is black(silver truck, black trim) and uses chrome to finish off the shafts.

Can you see it--yes. Is it 'ugly'--I don't think so. I travel I-75 daily and need the 'protection' that the CB gives. Yes, I get 'smokey' reports, but even more helpful is the traffic snarls and accidents that I hear about before I get there--gives me time to slow down and pick the 'open' lane.

Btw, I forgot to unsnap(quick-disconnect on the ant.) the ant. one nite at the strip and made 2 passes before I noticed it still sticking up above the cab---didn't make a tenth of a difference in subsequent passes???

CB was the www of the 70's. Also called recently the "RedNeck Internet", actually prior to Trucker's facination with it, it was a fun thing to be into.

Hey your truck and i say whatever floats the owners boat. But for me personally i wouldnt like that big anttena on any car ot truck and i really wished that ford would have shaved the raido antenna of the truck like i said and put it in the windshield. Same for the 01 gt's my buddie has one and in the center top of the windshield they have the running horse there and it looks like one of the antennas that are in the windshield. but its n ot he still has an antenna to. So Ford if you read these boards for the gen 3 lightning 1.NEW COLOR YELLOW 2. SHAVE THE ANTENNA AND PUT IT IN THE WINDSHIELD!!

Actually the best anttena was the 102" whip (that would be 8'-6"). Usually mounted to a big spring on the rear bumper. Worked much better than a 5' antenna.
