Need a glass cleaner that works

Windex doesn't seem to do anything but leave massive streaking, maybe not at first but after just a few days they become more and more evident. What glass cleaners are you using on the inside of your Ls?

Windex has ammonia in it and over time will cause your inside glass to be more of a problem. Try to find window cleaner without ammonia in it. Some window tinting places carry a silicone base cleaner. Hope this helps.

Never had a problem using windex and newspaper. The newspaper print will polish the glass and I think is the key to not having any streaks.

Do This!

'Bolt:

Prepare to receive knowledge. I have THE answer. Do this, and only this, immediately. You'll thank me later.

The sum total of what you need to execute a STUNNING glass cleaning is:

Dawn dishwashing liquid
Distilled water (NOT tap water)
Two cotton washcloths
Two cotton towels

Make up a quart or so of Dawn (pretty weak, but capable of sudsing) with hot water. This will require just a fraction of a teaspoon of the soap. Make up a second container of just distilled water. Keep them straight.

Dedicate one washcloth to the soap, and one to the water. Keep them straight. Same for the towels.

Using the "soap" washcloth, scrub the bejeezus out of the window. Towel it off dry with the "soap" towel. This will get about 99 percent of the soap off the window and it will be looking pretty sweet already. But you're not done yet...

With the "water" washcloth, scrub the bejeezus out of the window. Notice how you're able to raise a few soapy bubbles. Towel it of dry with the "water" towel. You have now removed all of the soap, and the window is cleaner than you can believe.

Say to yourself - "My, that was easy and simple, and the results are simply not to be believed. That Silver-Y2K-SVT guy sure knows what he's talking about, and I really need to give him a shout-out on the 'Board tomorrow...".

If you're doing a lot of glass, the distilled water and associated washcloth/towel will become steadily contaminated with soap. Change them out regularly for best results.

I agree, I've been doing something very close to this for years and it wont hurt your tint like windex either.

I just used the Dura-Shine window cleaner/sealer and I have NEVER seen anything as good. No streaks at all and when the windshield gets dirty again, you just use a damp cloth on it. The new dirt just wipes off like nothing and the w/s is perfect again. Really good stuff.

Just tried 'Rain-X' window washing stuff - seems to work pretty good inside and out . . . also had good luck with Mother's Chrome Polish . . . !

For yearly cleaning (to get the road-scum-build-up off) I used Brasso (unitl I ran out) now I use Soft-Scub . . . !

This has always been a problem(hazy inner w/s) for me too. I've thought of using 'soap' and tap water to clean it with. The dawn/distilled water sounds 'right'. Does a large towel keep the soap/water off of the dash?

Btw, coatsproducts.com(Cherry Wet Wax, etc.) has a w/s cleaner that I tried this wk/end and it works! Removed the 'haze' and 'dirt/dust'--looks clean--time will tell.

Talking Glass Cleaner

I have used a product called GLEME glass cleaner. I find it at a local store that sells janitorial supplies. It is a foaming aerosal formulation that leaves NO streaks. It is safe to use on other surfaces also.

Hope this helps!

Gleme and Durashine have been great for me also. don't waste your money on the POS Armor-All napkins; they leave fuzz everywhere.

The Zaino Glass Cleaner is the best stuff I have ever used . . .

Z-12 CLEAR-VIEW GLASS POLISH

Finally, a glass cleaner and polish that really works. We have yet to find a stain that it did not remove. Formulated with modified cleaners and mild abrasives, that deep cleans and polishes all glass surfaces. Removes acid rain, water spots, road film, stubborn stains, annoying interior glass film and fine to medium scratches. This product will remove plasticizing (the hazy film that attaches to the inside of the windshield on all late model vehicles) in one application. Leaves glass crystal clear and sparkling. You will think the glass disappeared. Will not scratch or distort glass. Great for restoring old windshields. Can also be used to clean chrome and metal surfaces. For hand or machine use. Not for use on painted or plastic surfaces.
