If you have a chip the o2 sensor code can be changed in the hex file so as to not give you the check engine light

TZ is right.

I actually ran without cats for about 6 months.

Although the sound was loud as **** and turned a bunch of heads, I actually came to find out i was losing power.

I ran with the check engine light on for a while and noticed that I would get a lot of popping (backfiring type sounds) as well as dump fuel.

It is tough to beat that sound, but I would rather have the power. The stock exhaust actually flows pretty well from what I have read.

Just FYI.

Removing just the 2 larger cats with not through a check engine light. It will make it 2-3 times louder. It will lose performance.

I never had a light come on when I cut all for cats off. I ran without a chip for a few months without a problem. I went faster every time after cutting the cats.

Cool

On my previous L (2000) I had all 4 cats taken off, and replaced by two Hi-Flow cats. I picked up a whopping 3rwhp, and lost 2 ftlbs of torque. So as you can imagine I was NOT too happy at the wasted $$$. Could have used it on real parts.
**Note: It did sound a heck of alot Tougher though!!

If you don't have a chip, you can call one of the Mustang Suppliers and ask them if MIL Illiminators that they have for the Mustangs will work. These are simple snap in sensors that trick the check engine light.

As for State Inspections and the trucks not passing without cats. It also all depends on which State. For example: us lucky Floridians had the emmissions testing ELIMINATED in our State. Seems it wasn't fair that only 3 major Counties were having to deal with inspections while the rest of the State had no worries.

The secondary sensors could be turned off to eliminate any MIL lights.
As for power loss........None if your planning on running NITROUS In fact, you will GAIN power over a system with CATS. Hope this helps

I have a full bassani system and awhile back I romoved my cats and put in some Dynomax race bullet mufflers. The sound was loud, but also kinda ratty when you ran the truck at certain speeds. At WOT, its was sickly loud though and totallt cool.

Just about one week ago I reinstalled the cats and I'm sure just by driving my truck I was loosing power with the dynomax bullet mufflers. I even went to the track this year after I put the mufflers in place, and believe it or not I went 12.8 to my usual 12.6 with cats. So theres the proof!

Until will get into some sick A$$ horse power, I really think where loosing. Or if we had some new cams to install that would help big time!!!
