I don't think that a roll cage would be illegal. People drive around here in sand rails all the time and never get pulled over. That would be worse than a roll cage inside a car I would think?
You will have a hard time getting street insurance if your Ins Guy finds out you have a racing roll cage installed...

When I was talking about someone whacking their head off of a "cross bar", I was referring to the bar running diagonally through the center of the cab like in the first picture that Spike posted on the first page of this thread. Look through the open rear window...now do you see what I'm saying? Chances are, Ruslow's cage is built a lot stronger than the cages us mere mortals would need, since we're not throwing our truck around a turn at 140+ mph making it our bitch, but Jeeps don't come like that from the factory, and what you see in convertibles is probably as much or more just for aesthetics than for its functionality. Even my friends pretty built 85 Stang with a roll cage didn't have a diagonal bar like that I'm pretty sure.
For clarification I guess, would the 6 and 8 point cages we're talking about having made in this thread come with a diagonal bar like in Ruslow's, or just bars along the perimeter of the cab?
Don't get me wrong- I think the roll cages look cool, and they definitely offer you more protection if you were to actually roll your truck over...but I still have to say that I at least see the possibility for a worse injury to occur (to the passenger or driver) in a car to car non-roll over accident, which is the most common type you'll see when driving on the street (versus a track).
Take it for what its worth.

THE CROSS BAR IN THE RED "L"s CAB LOOKS A LOT LIKE A BAR THAT WOULD BE MORE LIKELY SEEN IN CIRCLE TRACK OR ROADRACE VEHICLE! I WOULD THINK A DRAG TRUCK WOULD NOT NEED IT.BUT I WILL CHECK W/ THE CHASSIS SHOP IN RESPECT TO IHRA & NHRA RULE & LET YOU KNOW SO WE CAN ALL BE LEGAL & SAFE.
A cage would be cool, I have an Auto power 6 point with removable door bars in my MR2 and it's cool. Plus this would be a great place to mount a camera for some wild street videos.
I would be in for the group buy, But I think a 6 point would be plenty, atleast for me.

That diag. bar is not the problem if you only use the lap belt if your head did hit it, your neck would be broke first.The bar that is the problem with my cage is the windsheild pillar bars since the windsheild is at a 50 degree angle I had to gusset the bar so as to get the strength back into it.IF you do not shoulder harness yourself in, your head WILL hit that bar in a ft collision and die for sure.I don't have the stock belts in the truck so I buckle up with the shoulder harness anyway and I make the pass too.even if she doesn't like it.Stan
