flipped my 01

Well, I seem to have been having some bad luck lately!! I put some race gas in my truck and I thought I 'd test her out on a nice stretch of pavement, BIG MISTAKE !! I hamered it from a 20 mph roll and the tires broke loose real hard then it shifted into second and it was over.... The truck sidesteped real bad, flung me into a ditch head on and I ended up cartwheeling while spinning 180 degrees into a tree. The truck seems to have alot of frame and suspension damage and the body looks horrible!!

Looks like I'm not gonna go to Bowling Green

Thanks Johnny Lightning for making my truck so violent on street tires!! Its all your fault!!! J/K

This sucks more than anything has sucked before--I just hope the insurance totals it!!!-Neil

Neil,

I was almost in the same boat with you today I was messing around with a friend from work who has a '86 300ZX and I punched it from the light and all it did through first gear was spin, but as soon as I went into second the truck broke sideways heading straight for a pole on a left turn median. I regained control of her and then at the next light it did the same thing AGAIN!!! I guess I have to get use to that line mod valve. I was really thankful I didn't wreak her!!!

I am sorry to hear about your accident, it is always sad to see an L thats wreaked!! Hope you are ok!!!

While everyone is posting their condolences, you might want to think about what went wrong. Number one this was entirely your fault. Number two what are you going to do to see that this doesn't happen to you again. You know you could have been killed. You need to have the L aimed straight ahead when you punch it. It's hard enough to make sure you are going straight under these conditions without having to negotiate a turn also.

When I got my 99 I had to leave the dealership and immediately make a 90 to the right on a heavy traffice four lane road. I thought about hammering it and immediately dismissed the idea because of experience. I knew the truck was powerful and I had no experience with it and I knew any powerful vehicle could easily get away from you in a start power turn.

Be more careful. Practice in a straight line with both hands firmly on the wheel. Get out of it quick if you feel its getting away from you. Learn the truck and how to handle it.

Thank God you weren't killed.

My feel for this truck and experience is to not get out of it quickly, as that can cause snapping and then uncontrollable steering. My truck is more secure coming off at a slower rate than quickly. Of course not many know how to drive out of a situation, instead they want to abruptly left off the gas and slam on the brakes.

P.s. nminor we're all glad that you're alive. That truck can be replaced. You can't!

BFB,
Generally I agree with you, like if the rear brakes to the right, I just turn to the right until it stablizes and then straighten it out without letting off. You can get bad backlash.
This happened to me at the strip a few weeks ago after I left the starting line right after a car sprayed oil on the track. They cleaned it up but didn't get it all. My rear broke right just after the start line. I never let off, but turned the wheel right, it straighten and I straightened the wheel and went down the track. Unfortunately this is not something you learn overnight. It comes from years of experience.

You can't step out of a 200 horsepower car into a 380 horsepower truck and be a pro driver overnight.

I feel your pain, dude. I also wrecked my truck about 2 weeks ago. The insurance company totaled my truck. I hope they total yours. Maybe you can get some joy back when you go shopping for another ride.

Thanks for everyones thoughts. I have talked to the dealership that I bought my truck and they happen to have another 01 silver Lightning. I have the truck on hold pending on what the outcome with the insurance company. Hopefully I can swap everything over and have another silver bullet again.

noelvn- I totaly hear what you are saying !! I am disgusted to see that I wrecked my pride in joy. I was heading straight, but my reflexes weren't in top notch shape. I had surgery on my ankle last week due to 3 severed tendons and a nerve. I am wearing a cast on my left leg and it seems to make my reflexs alittle slower. I am so down on my self for trying to test its limits, but I am so thankfull that I did not hurt anyone. Thanks-Neil
