Question Synthetic 5W20 in Houston area

Well, I did a search, and I found many posts on which oil to use and all of that, but nothing on where to buy it.

I was just wondering if any of you Houston area '01 owners are using 5W20 Synthetic, where you got it, and what brand you are using. I found one place locally that can get Royal Purple , but they said the only way they could get it was in a 5 gallon bucket.

Have you tried these guys:

Johns Trim Shop
4722 N. Main
Baytown, TX 77521
(281)422-4286

If they don't have what you need ... It's a pretty good haul from where you're at, but I found a place a couple of miles from my house that sells it. Their by-the-case price was pretty good, if I remember correctly.

The shop was on W. Little York near Barker Cypress, west of Highway 6. I'll try to find the name of the shop again.

Thumbs up

Hey Madhouse,

John's is the place that said they could only get it in a 5 gallon jug.

It would be grreat if you could find the info on the other place though. I would be willing to drive over there to get it. Thanks for the help.

The place near my house can get it in 1 day. The 5w20 only comes in racing form, $108 / case. He can get 5w30 regular synthetic for $65 / case. If you look on the Royal Purple website for Houston distributors (I called the one at the bottom of the list), you might find one closer to you. Let me know if I can help, I'll pick a case up for you and bring it to the B&F Tuesday night if you like.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the help and the info.

Madhouse,

I looked on Royal Purple's website and called a few of the distributors and got pretty much the same answer: they didn't have it, but they could get it for at least $9 a quart and by the case only.

I was hoping to find somebody that had it so I could just go get some.

I just ordered 6 quarts from JEG'S for $8 a quart.

What is different in an 01 that would cause the specs to change from 5w30 to 5W20? Hell, just use the 5W30. The engine will neveer know the difference. Lots of us in warmer climates are using 10W30.

The differance is the "Band-Aid" SVT put on the skirts of the new pistions. So with the new stuff on there to keep them from slapping, you have to use 5W20. But with our 2001 motor we still use 5W30.

Slapping? I don't hear no slapping? What? No I'm not turning down the stereo!
Heck Tommy, with all that nitros your running in that black beast, you're bound to have burned all the goo off by now.

Maybe.... But she is still running strong. Looking to run faster and have to de-tune the nitrous to keep NHRA legal.
