Aftermarket Tachs
THIS POSTING IS FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO PUT AN AFTERMARKET TACH ON THIER LIGHTNING. DONT DO IT. I ENDED UP BUYING A MODULE FOR MY TACH THAT COST MORE THAN THE TACH JUST TO GET IT TO WORK WITH THE LIGHTNINGS COMPUTER. TRUST ME, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, YOU WONT BE ABLE TO ENGINEER ANYTHING. IF ANYONE HAS A LIGHTNING AND A TACH AND NEEDS THE NUMBER TO THIS PLACE THAT SELLS THE MODULES, I WILL GIVE IT TO THEM, BUT LIKE I SAID, BE PREPARED, IT COSTS 300.OO!!!!!!

WHAT YEAR LIGHTNING DOES HE HAVE? AND WHAT TACH FROM AUTOMETER IS HE RUNNING? THE RPM PROCESSOR IS INTEGRATED INTO THE LIGHTNINGS CPU, HENSE, MY REASON FOR HAVING TO BUY THIS MODULE. WHERE OR WHAT PIN DID HE HOOK IT UP TO?
I have yet to hear of anyone making an Autometer tach work on the Gen II Lightning. Because of the coil on plug setup a special tach module is required which supposedly Autometer is working on but has yet to release. If somebody got one to work, I'd like to know about it. Sal doesn't know of one.
I believe the guy at the top with a $300 module but not the autometer guy. Please correct me if I am in error.

Its an autometer phantom face Monster Tach with shift lite(there just for looks).And I'll ask him if he had anything extra installed if any.And Noelvm, beleive it bro...I don't reply to problems just to make sh*t up! I've been on this website a little while now and either gather info or give it ...and thats how it should be.Flintstonekid I'll get back to you as soon as I find out some info on this.

OK, MONDO, I DONT THINK HE IS SAYING THAT YOUR MAKIN ANYTHING UP, ALL IM SAYIN IS THAT IVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON INSTALLING THIS TACH AND EVERYONE HAS SAID THE SAME THING, THAT YOU NEED THIS MODULE, IM JUS TRYIN TO HELP PEOPLE OR SAVE THEM SOME TIME. I'm still waiting on instructions for hooking up the Autometer tach.
I've always wanted to hook up one of those Autometer tachs so I can better see my launch RPM. Cosistant launch rpm is important in bracket racing and with only 500 rpm graduations and not very big it is hard to set consistantly at the track. I think a big tach would help. But Sal or noone I have talked to or anyone who has every posted here has been able to hook one up YET.

At the 2000 WFC, we were told setups for the COP ignition were a "few weeks" away. I called last week to check, and Autometer still has nothing that works.
Noel, I share you need for what you mentioned. I don't care about a shift light, but I want to hook up a light on our 01 that will light up at my converter stall rpm. This way I don't have to watch the tach to stage the truck, and can concentrate more on the tree.
I am working on an inexpensive device that will allow the use of these kind of tachs and lights. I'll keep everyone posted.
