winter tire mods

Before everyone jumps me for driving my L in the winter, I live in New England, and with the cake I just spent on my L, i can't afford a beater to drive in the winter just yet, so my options are to swap tires. Infact, i'm gonna grab a set of rims as well, don't wanna ruin the svt rims, but i need more narrow size tires for the snow. What is everyone's suggestions as far as rim and tires sizes for theis truck. What rims won't fit because of the braking systems....ect???? Any help would be appreciated, i'm still a rookie.

Why not look for expedition rims and tires to use? Or other F150's?

Theres gotta be at least 1 person in a reasonable distance who's getting newer rims and selling them.

fit right on??

will other expedition or fl50 set ups fit right on?? Bolt pattern if figures is the same, my concern was the rims fitting the hubs with no interference with the brakes. They use the same brake system on the L's as they do on the expeditions don't they?

I'm in the same boat. I need winter tires and rims as well, I was going to call tire rack to see what they had for a winter package. Or at least get the sizing from them. As far as I know the spare is a 235 75 16, I think. That sounds like a good winter sized tire to me.

winter tires

If you call tirerack, they will fix you up with some ford takeoffs that will fit. 16" rims from Ford usually fit. remember that your brakes are from a F250 and don't fit in a 15" rim. usually.
I tried to buy some 16" rims from Sears, They hit the brakes. The SEARS tire store bought the rims from tirerack. Expedition takeoffs. I sed 255/65/16 Michlins. Same as the Mercedes SUV.

16" are a min. for clearance of the rear brakes.
i picked up set of expy rims for 250, all 4.
then getting a set of 265 blizak winter tires.
with about 200 to 300 pounds in the rear should be liveable..

Hey where in Mass are you?

Any 16 rim with a 5x135 bolt pattern off a 97 or newer F150, Navigator, or Expidition will fit.

I am sorta in the same boat as you, I have a 2nd vehical I can borrow for the winter, but will still be driving the L some in the winter. I have a set of 275/60HR tires on 17 inch rims that were on my last truck. On the real bad days I will be driving a Mini Van.

Hey have you or do you plan to get up to New England dragway?

me again

hey don, cool name. I'm up in peabody. I've never raced up the track. My cousin goes like twice a week and as soon as he found out I bought the truck, he calls me everyday. I'll probably give it a run at some point. Need to do some mods, but i'm still recovereing from the financial blow!!! Tires and rims are #1. I only have to drive like a 1/4 mile to my store, but i'm afraid with the power, i'll be side ways with these tires. Definetely gonna look for a beater for the winter......

Just got off the phone with tire rack and heres what i found out:
4 Bridgestone DMZ2's are $90 each, they also have a Ford Alloy wheel for $60 apeace. Total mounted balanced and shipped is $659.40. The tires are 225/75/16. Studded snows are $71.50 each. I am probably going to go with that Bridgestone package.
