Car to buddy up with Lightning?
I've always wanted a supercar, but could never really afford one. After doing a ton of research, I came across something that I've been considering to get to join my stable that is more in my price range.

Affordable Exotics
These replica Diablo's are sweet. Full chome-molly chassis, 4.x second 0-60 (faster if you buy the bigger engine) and other goodies. They look so sweet.
What do you guys think? The base starts at $65,000 and moves up from there. The configuration I like is around $75k. A real Diablo roadster (2001-VT) would run you around $250,000-275,000.

i think your a knuckle head if you spend 70 grand on a replica, you can lease them w/ 6k miles a year for about 1500 a month or you could do a dream lease, check this out, it sounds really neat.

1500 a month sounds like alot but really if you bought one of those replicas for 70k and wanted to sell it in a few years it would only be worth about 25k pls you have to find a buyer, at 1500 a month thats 20 grand a year so over 3 years thats 60 grand, but its a real car, i work with a guy that leased one a few years back and ended up totaling it and i must admit that there is no way to reproduce the true sound of a diablo...
another thing to consider is the things you could and couldnt do in such a car, like going out to eat, anything less than a 4 star restraunt and forget it, if you went to macdonalds people would laugh at you, the guy i work with said that was the worst part, he spent more on looking like he could afford the car than he spent on the car

I have seen 5 Diablo VTs in the last month... 2 at dealership, 3 others just driving around. Gray, 2 red, 2 yellow. Far too much money around here (silicon valley).
If anyone's interested... there are 2 new yellow's for sale at Stanford European in Palo Alto.

Years ago, right after those first started appearing in the states, I saw one of those (real thing) pull up across from me at a drive-in restaurant. He and his wife proceeded to eat big greasy burgers & fries while sitting in it. I wanted to punch the guy. I don't care how much money you have, you don't treat a Diablo like that.
My friend has one and he doesn't like to drive it too much. Most of the time it just sits in his warehouse of about 20 to 30 other cars. It's funny cause of all his cars, his favorite daily driver is a PT cruiser and a minivan.
My favorite car in his collection is a Vector M12 with the Lamborghini engine. It was the first M12 produced and was painted the Stars and Stripes, see pic below. He and my other friend just bought the Vector company from the owner's of Lamborghini. This time they are going to produce them with an American V-8 and maybe a twin turbo, and with a price tag of about $250-$500k. Too bad, both of them live on the east coast, cause they said that I could drive some of their cars. I let him drive my L just the other week when he came to visit and he said he really like the power of the L and was thinking of getting one. He is right now into classic American muscle cars and just purchased a 19?? Chevelle 454ss while he was here.

The dream lease is okay, but consider that after 60,000, I would OWN this car, not have to give it back.
The other difference is that I could afford to repair the replica at my current income levels...a Lambo would cost a small fortune to fix if it broke, this car is made up of chevy parts for the most parts, so it would be easy to get parts for.
Of course, this all stemmed from me originally lookign at a Pontiac Fiero to turn into a kit car for fun...lol

How about a nice GT-40 replica instead. Lambo's are pretty common. Not many GT's real or other wise around. If you do a replicar do something with a real purpose built chasis. Not something with a glass body on an existing car chasis. Nice tube frame built for the car.
Lambos are pretty common???
Damnnnnn I gotta move to where you live!

Pawn...I think it looks pretty sweet....a lot better than any of the fiero based kit car lamborghinis....the interior actually looks pretty close to real..and in that respect I think it would be a fun car to have....on the other hand...I think I am generally against kit cars/fakes. Even the ubiquitous Cobra kit cars.
They looks sweet, and are prolly lots of fun...but there is something about the lack of authenticity that bothers me. But if it doesn't irk you...go for it. Should be one sweet ride guaranteed to garner a few looks.

Daniel,
I say go for it, if this is what you want then go ahead and buy it. I'm sure that there might be a few guys (very few) on this board that could actually aford a real Diablo VT but the kit car still would be cool. The only thing I would see bad in this is if you tried to pass it off as a real Diablo and not the Replica that it would be. I'm sure this would not be your intent but there was a guy here about 8 years ago or so that had a Lambo replica that was telling everyone it was real, he made a real fool of him self, this Replica still had the Pontiac Fiero interior.
So what I'm trying to say is if you want the Replica and that is what it is then get it, If you want the real thing then the Dream Lease would be the way to go if you can't afford the real thing out right. So get it and have a blast.

99svtlightning -- it has crossed my mind. Only problem is they're about 10g's more.
Hld -- Yeah, I'd never try to pass it off as an original.
They look cool as hell though, lol.
I dunno, it was just an idea I was running with, not sure what I want to do yet. I was also thinking I might just buy another Lightning and turn it into a track only car...or an RX-7... lol, I really am not sure where I want to head yet.
