Best ram air: cone filter or modded box???

Has anybody tested the difference at the track between a ram air w/ the cone filter such as the JL set up, and a modded air box ram air set up?
I know someone took air temps and the modded air box took in much cooler air. Can a modded airbox w/ K&N flow enough air to justify using it over a cone set-up?
I am ready to start modding, so this of course will be the first of many to come. I really won't be running at the track, maybe just some stop light Grand Prix's w/ Vette and Camaro SS's. So, do I need the colder intake temps or the more air flow?

At Beech Bend track in Bowling Green KY I tested the 12" powerstack filter against my Modified air box( 3" hole in bottom connected to flex tube which I ran to the underside of the bumper). The temps were 90* approx. and humidity 85-95%. The modified air box netted me approx. .15 to .2 gains. At that time I was only running the upper pulley and now have both upper and lower pullies. It almost feels as if the engine needs more air with the setup I have now, so I put my 12" powerstack back on. From my experience, which is little compared to most on this board, I would use the modified/stock box over open filter in very hot conditions and open filter if it is cool outside or if you are pulling more air in by use of pullies.

I have gotten similar results as easterisland.

I have a modified factory air box that sucks air in through the uper grill.

It then enters on the bottom of my air box

What I notice when it is hot say over 85 degrees out the modified air box gives me more power.

When it is cooler that say 80 degrees the JDM 12" filter gives me more power.

I have it set up so I can switch air box/filters in about 10 minutes.

Hope that helps
Don

Thanks guys. i think that's exactly what I am going to do. Run the modified airbox until about mid-October, then run the cone for the colder climates.
