Ravin exhausts
There should be quite a few pretty thorough posts around here somewhere about Ravins (I know, since I wrote and contributed to many of them myself), but since people have been saying that the search feature is temporarily experiencing "technical difficulties", I'll try to summarize briefly to tide you over till search gets fixed...
I went from the stock L system to straight pipes because people said they really liked the aggressive sound they made, but I do a lot of highway driving (36,000 miles in 10 months on the L), and after Day One I realized they were way to obnoxious for me.
Suggestion No. 1: Don't buy an exhaust (any exhaust) for your truck without hearing it first on someone elses. I tell you this from experience, dude.
So I took the straights off, and once again bit the bullet and blindly installed dual Ravin Z-33's on my truck without ever having heard or seen them in person...strictly because a few people had said they sounded better than Flow's did, which were my next choice (that I hadn't heard either). I've had them on my truck now for about 3 months, so the "newness" has worn off and I can give you my actual unbiased opinion...
Dual Ravin Z-33's sound "pretty" good; not "very" like the Bassani...but then again, they aren't "very $1500" like the Bassani...so take that for what its worth. If you have the cash to buy the Bassani- do it, but if not- then I'd recommend this system. I like the way they sound and "perform" more and more everyday. I sort of miss the full effect of the open-element supercharger whine I was used, but now I have the best of both worlds (the supercharger isn't as loud, but you can still hear it pretty clearly). They have a nice, deep, mellow rumble around town (people will hear you coming), and what I've come to find out is very important is that they're very manageable at highway speeds (any speed for that matter)...
But if you hammer it...strap in! At WOT they are L-O-U-D...like Nascar open-headers loud.
You know those people that pi$$ you off by driving like 30 in a 45? Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I've made most of these people go deaf from the first gear downshift and hearing the Ravin's at full tilt, out the side exhaust, directly into their window. I'm vengeful...and the Ravins can be too. Hope this helps.
Oh yeah, one last thing. If you do decide to buy the Ravins, I would highly recommend not having them installed at a Midas. Buy them there, but have them installed elsewhere. Just my .02 (again, coming from personal experience).

Edit: ...that wasn't brief at all, what the hell was I thinking?!

There is a MIDAS right down the street from me. Someone who works there as a 2001 Silver L. I was going to take with him/her before having any work done. Still can't decide though. Too many mufflers, and not enough time or money to here them all....
Edit again: If someone at your local Midas shop owns a Gen2 Lightning (silver at that...hahaha), I would probably let him (but no one else at the shop) install it. As you all know, there is some sort of unspoken "bond" between L-owners (the thread starters name...pun intended), and I would have to assume that he (/she I guess) would take their time and you might even get a better install at that Midas over a custom shop...assuming that said L owner is competent and they have the proper equipment to do a quality install.
Edit #2: If I could do it all over again, I'd probably buy a Bassani X-pipe and throw it in in-front of the Ravins (Z-33's only). And I think my local (hack) Midas shop put the wrong (smaller) diameter pipe on, so check that too.
