When it comes to custom exhaust, there's a way to do just about anything...

And although I'm sure you could find a Lightning owner on this board that still has their stock system that they took off to replace with something like Bassani, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Ravin or Borla... why would you want to buy it? Not that the stock system is bad power-wise, but the whole reason most people change from the stock exhaust to something else is because they want a different (louder) sound. Why wouldn't you just skip the middle step (buying the stock L exhaust in this case, only to switch it out later), and just purchase one of the aforementioned aftermarket exhausts that is already pre-fabbed for your truck's application? That's my advice (from someone that's had to deal with a bad custom install). Take it for what its worth. later...

Yup. My stock exhaust is so much quiter than most of the regular Fords and Chevy's around here, go get a Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Bassani, etc...you won't regret it.

Has anybody weighed the stock exhaust? I'd guess I shaved at least 60 lbs. modifying mine!

Want to make a vehicle run faster; improve the power to weight ratio along with peak hp, traction, etc.

I think I need a slim-fast!

Thumbs down Go with something else

Are you talking about an F150 or a Mustang? You'd be much better off by using another aftermarket system. The lightning muffler would simply not fit under a Mustang. There are several great choices for Stangs. I'd personally look at dynomax ultraflos or Edlebrock victor series................bang for the buck dynomax superturbos can't be beat.

Talking

An F-150, and i was looking at the L's exhaust because i really like the way it comes out the side like that it looks badass! Is there a flowmaster or any other exhasust that comes out the sides like that or a dual cat-back that maintains/increases low-end torque? (Such as utilizing an x-pipe?) Thanks for all the input guys!

The Bassani cat-back for the L exits out the side. I'm sure it could be done for a regular F150. Nice quality stainless and loud, but pricey.

Sorry to bring this back to the top, but...

I was just reading back through my previous posts, and thought I'd pass this info along to CarMan:

Another exhaust that you may want to consider for your non-Lightning F150 is the Gibson supertruck exhaust. It also is a dual exhaust that exits just before right rear wheel, and I'd have to imagine they have an application for whatever model F150 you have. Actually, a buddy of mine had this exhaust on his 95 Lightning, and if I remember correctly, it didn't sound all that bad.

Just something else to consider. Good luck. Later...

Carman, any good muffler guy can mandrel bend exhaust pipe to have it come out wherever you want. You don't have to go with the stock Escort sounding muffler they put on the "L".
