? Coating on frame rails ? What is it?

I got my '01 lightning on 8/14/01. I attempeted to retain all factory stickers and covers. I looked under at the frame and noticed the stickers on the frame. One near right front that has SVT . Another one under pass door with vin #, one near front of bed with date code. When i remove date codes i had no problem but the SVT took the coating off the rail. I then touched it and its like a grease or not dry yet paint or undercoating its real thick. I had noticed some spots where the fram was mared probley with a chain fron tie down on transporter.

Question is does these stuff suppose to dry or what??

Pic is of date stamp 07/10/01

It's the factory undercoating, and it will stay like that. It's one of the causes of the clunk. It allows the washer to slide. Hope this answers your question.

The Engineering term for it is "Frame Wax." AKA undercoat.

I refer to it as Cooter Coating or Gomer Grease.

spooge

/spooj/ Inexplicable or arcane code, or random and probably incorrect output from a computer program.

I had to look that one up....

Tampa LOL,
I was thinking of something else all together. I heard that Ford's main source of supply for the coatings is from the floors of adult movie theaters.

It's tar from the Labrea tar pits. I was working under the truck a few days ago and I still have some on me. I can see how the dinosours got stuck in the stuf.
