Talking Lost to a Z06, but not by much!

Pulled up next to a Z06 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. Friday night.

Our reaction times were close (I was .03 slower).

I had the 60 ft on him BIG time.
Mine was a 1.78 to his 1.88

I know he had to be scared seeing this big *** black truck in front of him.

He didnt catch me until the 1/8 mile mark!

When all was said and done the Z06 ran a 12.50 @ 114mph to my 12.88 @ 105.

I lost, but I had fun doing it!!

Went over the scales that night---4708 lbs. with me in the truck.

I figure a coulple of well thought out mods and I'll be able to run him down next time.

Jason.

BOB:

8.194 @ 84.5 mph

if your interested, the Z06 ran

8.138 @ 88.8 mph

Jeff:

Where have you been going? 41?
66 hooks a million times better!!!!!
I didnt spin once there. I hooked so well, I'm going to try F1's next time.

Are you going to 41 Sat. morning?

Jason

Do you happen to know if the Z06 was all stock? Did he have any different tires, shifter, etc? Thanks!

Cool

The race wasn't exactly fair because you were using cheater slicks and he had street tires, but still impressive for a truck to hang that close none the less. Would have been cool to see.

That Z06 was all stock.

2002Lightning:

Cheater slicks? Tration is tration right?

He hooked just a well as I did!

So what your saying is if I had my F1's on It would have been fair?!?!? Doesn't make sense!!

The Z06 has 295/35-18 F1's on the back and Route 66 is a very well preped track (even on test and tune days).
Thats a whole lot of tire. Like I said he didnt have any wheel spin, and if I'm not mistaken 1.8 60ft's and mid 12's are the norm for the Z06. Doesn't seem like he was at a disadvantage to me.

I agree that race wasn't fair. You weighed at least 1000 lbs more than him, and your truck flies like a brick not an arrow.

Hey Leonard. I agree with ya. Not a fair race. The L probably had about 100ft lbs more torque and way more HP also. ..... Of course it's run what ya brung, so it's all fair at the track.

The 1.8 is damn good for a stock Z06. Must've been a helluva driver. I've seen stock Z06s at Beech Bend run anywhere from 12.7-14.1 with 60' times being in the low 2s.............

Cool

StruckBy99,

First off, you took what I said waaay to personal. It was not ment as a flame. "cheater slicks" is a slang term used to describe those type of tires because they are a street legal slick.

What I was trying to point out is that in a street tire versus slick race there isn't an accurate assessment of the actual performance difference in the vehicles. If the Z06 had a "cheater slick" type tire on, the guy would have been able to rev it up to 6000 RPM and dump the clutch. The car would come out of the hole like a rocket with a 1.5-1.6 60 ft and his victory would have been alot more. As it was he pulled a pretty good 60 ft for street tires, but it would have been better with similar tires. Your track must be very well prepped, he would never get that kind of 60 ft with street tires at my track.

In answer to your question, yes the race was fair because its his fault he didn't spend the money for some sticky tires. However it wasn't neccessarily an accurate assessment of the performance difference between the vehicles.

None of this was ment as an insult. You ran 12's in a 4700lbs truck, this is very impressive any way you look at it. It only makes sense that a 3100lbs sports coupe that costs double the price would be a little quicker. I'm sure you had him freaked out, like I said it would have been cool to see.

The Zo6s in S Fla. won't even run our trucks anymore. The best time I've seen one run at the track (Moroso) was a 12.7. We run in the 4s and 5s.

They run over in the Sportsman line now instead of the dial-in.

Cool race...definitely would be a fun one to watch from the stands!

I agree with Scott. Slap some ET Streets on the Z06 and it runs 11.9-12.1s easily, and the race isn't close. This isn't a flame...its the truth.

That being said, a 12.8x / 105mph truck is cooking!! Great times.

WA 2 FST and 2002:

I dont think you guys understand where I'm coming from.

If you guys knew what this track was like, I think you would understand.

My point is, If the traction is there (which it was), It wont matter if you have an E.T. Street on the back or a sticky street tire.

Over kill on traction is useless. If you hook up with a street tire its useless to go to a drag tire. Too much traction will slow you down.
Its called drag.

Check out info on the Goodyear F1 Supercar tires that the Z06 comes with. It only has a UTOG rating of 220. Thats a SOFT tire.
To compare, our F1 GS's have a UTOG rating of 300.

Street tires hook VERY well at this track. It is always very well prepped, which is why I'm going to run my F1's the next time I go back. I'm not going to use my E.T. streets if I dont have to!

Drive your car/truck as hard as you can with the street tire, if it hooks--LEAVE THEM ON.
If it doesn't hook--Switch to something stickier(E.T. Streets)
