How's that? Depending on the tuner and your needs/desires, you could get a slow, low-power chip that would allow your 'Bolt to run on charcoal lighter (100% blower bypass, 30 or 40 degrees of ignition retard) or, on the other hand, require straight toluene (or propane) at 130 octane (very lean fuel curves, massive ignition advance).

How does getting a chip make octane requirements a "moot point"? I would venture that is becomes a MUCH bigger issue with any "typical" chip that folks on this board have or are considering (which make power by leaning out the mixture and advancing the ignition).
Well of course you can get your chip tuned anyway you like

Most all "off the shelf" street programs from the tuners, sans individual requirements by the purchaser, come with 92-93 octane "premium pump gas" requirements anyway. That's all I was saying.

I had it done to mine, and I felt a difference, however slight. The tech plugs a little handheld thing in below the cigarette lighter, goes thru a few menus and gets to the octane option, changes it from 87 to 93 and it's done. I have no idea whether a chip can do the same thing, I would suspect that they could.

I dunno what it's called, it looks like an old star trek tricorder kinda thing. Plugged into the port below the cigarette lighter.

A friend who was doing me a favor put gas in my truck when I wasn't present. As soon as I touched the gas pedal, I knew he hadn't put premium in the tank. The pinging was horrific. It turns out he put 89 octane in. I've even gotten pinging from a questionable batch of premium.

What Factory Tech said is correct. However, if you have a 99 you have to tell the tech you don't want your comper updated when they hook up the Star Tester. Otherwise you will leave with a CUX2 and your chip won't work.
