Sluggish when cold

I have a 2000 Ford lightning and when i put it in drive when it is cold it will become sluggish and have no power for a few seconds. when i press the gas to try and make it act right it just loses more power. any thoughts on what this could be.

I get sluggish when it's cold, too.

I hope you're not saying that when you first start the truck and the motors cold that it's sluggish if you try and feed it some decent throttle and RPM's?

Let the motor warm up before getting down on it. IMO this is especially important on Modular motors with a 4.165" stroke.(5.4's, and 6.8's) A longer stroke means faster piston speeds at any given RPM. Modulars motors have small bores and a long stroke. Even a 4.6 has a petty long stroke as far as traditional SB motors go, and it's stroke is even longer than a 351w's which was already 1/2 inch longer than the old 302 SBF. A 5.4's 4.165" stroke is huge and the only gasoline motor I know of ever put into a production vehicle with a longer stroke is the old Vortec 8100. 5.4's come up to temperature pretty quickly IMO and a lot quicker than a 4.6 from my experience and the only reason I can figure is because the much longer stroke of the 5.4 is giving it higher piston speeds at any given RPM, but IDK.

no this is after the motor has had a chance to warm up and just regular driving. I'm not trying to get on it just trying to get up to speed. But it only does it for a couple of seconds. It acts like its either starving for air or fuel but I figured if it would be one of those two it wouldnt quit and there are no dtc codes

who did th tune? what MAF or are you using a MAFia?

if you have no MAF upgrade or MAFia then you are running your truck lean (hence the "lack of power" issue) keep it up and you'll be playing "pop goes the motor" an expensive vehicle game that is easily avoided

LFP didn't "do the tune" as they do not tune...

who did the tune, what was the review of the datalog results? (ie any changes/revisions to the tune)

also can we get the rest of the story

LFP put the tune on my tuner and it has not been touched since they have done that. This is all that has happened after i have put on my bassani equal lengths. I just found today that one of the evap purge valve hoses that goes into the intake is collapsed. so goin to change that.

so you haven't done any datalogging...

then you made changes / mods that require tuning changes (not to mention substandard work) and are wondering why you're having issues
