any chance of finding a lightning at msrp?

Hello all, first post - im very interested in purchasing the '01 ford lightning. This truck is a beast!! I just got off the phone with a dealer who was telling me he has a silver one coming in, in about 1-2 weeks. I was pretty exited untill he told me the standard markup is between 8-10k over msrp?? Is this right?? Ouch..I would be stretching for 30-35k but anything more I would begin looking elsewhere for transportation. Anyone out there able to get msrp prices on there lightning or is this a foolish dream?? I would be willing to travel also..im in the bay area where supposedly everyone has money ('cept me) Well hopefully there will be more posts if I can find a dealer not looking to gouge the beejeezus out of me..thanks for reading.

Why pay MSRP there are plenty of folks that are getting L's on the x plan. That is less than Invoice. Good Luck

Got mine at Fremont Ford for sticker. The Service Department sucks though.

LoP, that dealer is out of his tree. Even the So. Cal. dealers who once got $8-$10K over sticker are selling at list now because there is a glut of Lightnings on the market. You should be able to find a dealer in your area who sells for MSRP, if not for x-plan. My dealer here in Ventura is expecting a black one in a week or two, and I know they will sell it for MSRP, if not less. If interested shoot me an e-mail.

That dealer doesn't deserve your business, even if they came down to sticker later

You can get an L practically anywhere in SoCal for sticker, and I'm sure there has to be a dealer in S.F./Oakland somewhere that would be stand up about it. There's a bunch of board members up there with L's that could most likely hook you up with a good dealer.

The local dealer has a couple of each color and is willing to sell them at about $30,000 each. If anyone wants one call, Kieth Boerding at 314-843-4431. I got mine from him.

P.S. These are not CA emission rated trucks

Hope this helps

I think all L's (and all Ford models) are CA emissions rated, if I'm not mistaken.

Yea, there are a few dealers in Texas who think its still 1999 too, but they will wake up eventually, when they are sitting on a pile of L's.

And L's are 50 state emissions legal. Heck, if it meets federal LEV standards,I am sure it is CA legal.

I believe the L is a purchase only vehicle. You can't lease it.

You can lease them. The bank or lending institution holds title (technically owns the vehicle) whether it's a loan or a lease. There are a number of L 'owners' who lease.

The L's I looked at here in Iowa were MSRP. I couldn't make the payments on a purchase (no special Ford Credit financing) and the dearler tried to push the lease. Not really a bad idea because the L is still a truck and will have a lower residual value than the true market value. Therefore you could purchase the truck back at the end of the lease for less than the market value. This information is derived from the fact that used '99 L's have held their value. Since Ford increased their original production on the '01 this may not be the case after a couple of years.
