woodward dream cruise
woodward dream cruise
Anyone going to the Woodward dream cruise in the Detroit burbs this weekend? Anyone that can tell me what to expect? I read 30,000 cars and 1.5 million people. I'll be there in my red 01.

The Cruise is great. More cars and trucks then you've ever seen. It's already started! They had to close off Woodward last night because so many cars were already there.
Woodward Ave. runs from downtown Detroit northwest to downtown Pontiac. In Pontiac it becomes Wide Track Drive which loops around back to Woodward. There isn't much in Detroit (south of 8 Mile). I think the best area is between I-696 (10 Mile) and Maple Road (15 Mile) in downtown Birmingham. If traffic isn't moving, park and walk. Clubs take over sidestreets and parking lots. The Big 2 1/2 have display areas with famous older cars and new concepts. You will see large groups of Cobras, supercharged Impala SSs, F-bodies, Mustangs, about anything you can think of. I haven't seen a Lightning gathering. There is entertainment and good food in Royal Oak and Birmingham.

Plan on leaving at dark. The police (who are EVERYWHERE) shut off everything ~10pm.
Have fun and be sure to wave at me. I'll be driving a red Viper convertable.

I'll be there as part of Team Mustang in Ferndale on Friday and Saturday. Maybe I'll go home and get the Lightning for Saturday evening. Just a note.... they have the right 2 lanes allocated for cruisers only....... but they're supposed to be classics only. Both last year and the year before I was asked to get out of the right 2 lanes by show organizers and I have a '94 Cobra w/ a 5.8 (sounds good) and a custom paint job.
Apparently back in the 60's if you came out on Woodward or Gratiot, the parents of these people were out there making sure no one with a late 60's muscle car was cruising....... apparently only cars from the 40's would have been allowed.
