Got my baby back!
Went over to Barber yesterday and was surprised to see my truck sitting on the ground, new wheels and all. The mechanic came in and worked on it all day Saturday, I guess he could see how anxious I was to reclaim her. We went for a little test spin and he was mightily impressed, and its not that easy to impress a guy with a 475 h.p. 'vette. Going to break her in by driving to Laguna Seca for the Historics this week end, and following Saturday up to Famoso to see how she runs. Going to meet Cliff Smith and his new '01 up there. Anyone else interested?
Glad to see you got your new motor all squared away. I'm not sure if you mentioned this before, but in getting a new motor in a 00 do you get the 01 intake/blower/intercooler or is it 'the fix' intercooler with the existing intake/blower? Just curious for when my 00 motor blows up...
alphadoggy,
Greorge, It's good to hear that she's back. How does it run with the now motor? Mine's in the shop for 30,000 mi maintenance today.
I guess a few of us are going to run at Carlsbad this weekend. I doubt if I can make Bakersfield the following week. Last time I ran there, it was so hot, the starting line was like a ice skating rink. The temps didn't go below 100 until about 8:00 PM. Kind of like LACR in air density. Bakersfield would be perfect about the end of October. The air temps will be down and the air will be good.
Have fun at Laguna Seca. I love that track up in the hills of Monterey. A friend of mine used to run shifter carts there, and I'd go see him run occasionally.
Did you see this month's Sport Truck. Marcus and I made it in the article. Check it out.

Doggone if I know, ekool, I have no knowledge about the Roadmaster product line other than I have a set on my truck and I think it really helps the towing, especially with such a short wheelbase.
Db, they made the tech remove the '01 i/c and blower, something about CARB certification, but they replaced my old b/o ones with the "fixed" i/c and new blower. Evidently if you drive your truck with a leaky i/c it peels the teflon off the blower vanes. The "new" i/c has 10 rows of coils instead of 9 and it looks like it should flow more air, and the s/c says SVT on it, not EATON, so I wouldn't be surprised if it is an '01. How many '00 s/c's are they going to stockpile, anyway.
And Jay, I did pick up a copy of S.T. at the grocery today, and read the article there. Didn't bring it home, though, afraid the pics would scare the dogs.
Didn't realize you were an old geezer like me, too.
Age and experience will triumph over youth and brashness every time.
I know Famoso will be hot; I ran a 13.39 up there in August a year ago, and I think my truck should be capable of 12s under good conditions, but hell, seniors just want to have fun. The new motor feels real strong, so I want to get a baseline, but that won't preclude returning in Sept. and Oct. Have fun at Carlsbad.

Age and treachary will figure a way to beat youth and enthusiasm, every time. Oh ya, did I mention the guy driving the Viper was all of about 23.
