Question New Lightning owner...modifcation questions?

OK guys, I know there are many opinions out there and I've checked the search feature w/o much luck, but what is the best air intake/filter kit to put on a 2001 L? Also, do you have dyno numbers to back it up? Will this void my warranty? Any information will be appreciate!

Save your money and keep your stock airbox...you'll go faster. Use the money for a chip

I put the psp filter kit on my 2001 and love it. I saw a 1.5-2 # increase on my boost guage. I know that people say the stock box flows pretty darn good, but I really like my filter.

I also have the psp 4 way chip and love that also. If I had to choose I would go with the chip first.

My 2 cents
Paul

I dont know about you guys but my boost gauge is buried at full throttle, bone stock. Maybe someone could chime in with their opinion on that....

Can the stock airbox and put on an open air filter. The sound alone is worth the price of admission. A chip is manditory. It will really wake up the sleeping giant.

Stock boost gauges are notoriously inaccurate.

I don't know how they could void your warranty with an air kit. I'm sure there are service writers who are real sticklers for mods but it would be difficult to prove an air-kit caused drive-train damage...if you think they might cause you trouble then put the stock box back before you go to the dealer - a 10 minute process.

Yeah, it will void your warranty. Technically(by law) they cannot refuse you warrenty service if you have a modification done to your truck. They can only refuse service if the problem is directly related to the modification. I got this bit of info off www.truckperformance.com

New Vehicle Warranties And Your Rights

No properly installed product on your vehicle will void your original vehicle manufacturers warranty. However, if you experience a problem with an uncooperative dealership point out the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act. For more information call your vehicle manufacturer or click on the link above to go directly to the Federal Trade Commission's website to find out about this law.

Here is the link to their web site:http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...y/undermag.htm

The warranty issues seem to vary from dealer to dealer. I even discuss my mods (including the infamous chip) with the service writer. They have never had an issue with this. They didn't try to blame the clunk, intercooler, or seat belt repairs on the chip.

The tech that works on my truck loves to test drive it (I let him).

It all depends on your relationship with the people who service your vehicle. One thing that I have found is that you get a lot better treatement is you are not antagonistic towards them.

Talking

What Jay said, he beat me to it. Just got a new '01 motor in my '00 under warrantee, and the mechanic took my ProM off and installed the JDM chip and 90mm MAF and filter for me. Of course, I bought the truck there, have a good relationship with them, and they know I try to steer business their way. Oh, and I have a good rationale for the chip, I have 4.10 gears and the speedo can't be corrected without one.
