Blower belt slipping...

During the 1st to 2nd upshift @ WOT, I'm constantly getting a loud screeching sound. I noticed this the first time I streched the engines legs, and ran the L through the gears at full tilt. (@ 5000 miles or so.) Surely, what i'm hearing is not the dreaded piston clatter that some folks have mentioned. I now have 10,000 miles on the truck and the slipping / noise has yet to cease. I do not notice the shreeeek during the 2 - 3 upshift at all. Is anyone else having this ploblem ? Just so you know it, I did do a search on this topic and could not find anything specific to blower belt slippage. I went to a NAPA store, looking for a shorter belt, but was unable to locate one, heck they did not even show a Blower belt for the 2001 Lightning yet!

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated...I'm kinda scared to mention this to the dealer, as they would prolly only make note of this for the record and not fix anythane, if you no what I mean.

It may be your serpentine belt for your accessories, not your blower belt.

Smile You might be right!

The belt tension seems to be about the same on both belts, so its hard to diagnose. I'll have to find a way to take some load off of the accessory belt and do another WOT. Prolly unplugging the ALT, would remove enough load for this observation... I'll give this a try.

Good point!

Thank you, 99svtlightning

My 01 has done the exact same thing since it was new. It's got about 3600 miles on it now and it isn't near as bad as when it was new. I suspect it slips because during the first to second shift at WOT the stock chip does that 4 cylinder cutout s**t, which slows the engine rpm down slightly but the blower is still cranking along. I posted something about this awhile back and the consenus was either get a shorter belt or leave it alone. I opted for the latter, at least until I get a larger pulley.
