Help Service Engine Light came on

OK my service engine light has never came on in the 115K miles it has on it.
Its basically all stock except for KN filter.
Here's what happened today - and maybe you guys can help.
I went to get gas for my truck and also to fill a few gas cans for my boat.
I got gas for my truck first which I always put 93 octane in. So I filled it half way with 93 octane. Please note the truck was running while I put the gas in.
So I went back in the store to pay for now 87 octane for my gas cans. I left the gas cap on my truck open as I forgot while I filled the gas cans. I had about 1 gallon of 87 I could not put in the cans so I just put it in the truck. I didnt think 1 gallon would be a big deal. So then I put the cap on the tank and drove off. Drove about 1 mile down rd, turned truck off and was in store for 5 minutes. Came out started it up then the Service Engine Light came on and now stays on?
Any ideas why?
Was it because I left trhe gas cap off while truck was running for a while while filling the truck up and gas cans.
Or was it because of the 1 gallon of 87?
Or completely something else?
What is a good scanner tool to buy as well to check for code?
thanks

Go to any parts chain and have them read the code for you.

I highly doubt it's because you mixed octanes.

I'll start will the MAF, then see if vacuum lines.
Could it be a bad O2?

Start with the MAF cleaning and PCV and vacuum lines. Search the forum for similar posts. There are several.

If it is say the MAF and I clean it will the engine light automatically go out as soon as I clean it. Or does the battery have t be disconnected and reconnected to clear the engine light?

Was P0171 the only code thrown? Like Patman said, could be the gas cap too. Try disconnecting the battery for 10min or so. Then reconnect and see if the code comes back.

Fix this hose at the bottom rear of the intake manifold, just above the bell housing....

well I brough it to the dealer to check out because I had to get a recall done fo the fuel tank straps done anyhow. So they told me its a vacuum leak and it between the gasketsbetween the upper and lower intake manifold and the supercharger gasget. They said it will cost $1175 and is mostly labor. I think its a bunch of BS and thats not the real issue. I can do it myself its its really the issue.

You are correct, Ford is yanking you around. It is NOT an intake gasket. It most likely is a rotting piece of rubber hose. The supercharger has to come off and it is a lot easier to fix with the intake manifold off. Mind you, almost all of these gaskets are reusable if you are careful. Take pictures, take you time and it is pretty straight forward. While you are in there, clean the intercooler, change plugs and it wouldn't hurt to change the supercharger oil.

Check all of the other rubber hoses for cracks as you go. It would help to have someone co-pilot, second set of eyes is always helpful.

Good luck.
