Angry Annoying Clunk when coming to a stop

Hey guys, i have a question. Has anyone ever been driving and come to a stop and around 10 mph hear a nice loud clunk??? I've heard of the wheel clunk, but never this. It happened today twice while applying the brake about 30%. I can't repeat it, so i wouldn't know what to tell the dealer. Thanks for any input

Yes I get a clunk when I brake hard to a stop. I dont know why but it does it. Any one know of a fix. I hate it when poeple ask "What was that?" I just say it just makes that sound.

Mine does it too. I just tell everybody: that's how you know it's really a Lightning.

When mine started that, I decided it was time to take action. The "turning" clunk was bad enough, but the "stopping" clunk was all I could stand. I welded the washer to the frame and it's never done it again. This was before Herb had his washers out. Under braking, the control arms take the force of trying to stop the truck, so if you've got a bad clunker, it'll do it when you brake too. So yes, it's the the same clunk, only not everybody gets or hears the "stopping clunk" if that makes sense. I guess it just depends on the individual application.

Ditto...

Ditto on what gforce said. I had the turning clunk pretty bad and when I would brake really hard it would clunk also. I had the Ford fix done and it hasn't clunked since (knock on wood).

Question

So this what you are syaing is that this "clunk" is because the bolt on the control arm moves that much? Does it get that loose? If that is the case, I would think it would be very dangerous. Luckily I haven't had an audible "clunk" yet, but I can see evidence of the bolt moving, and of course I have the self adjusting alignment. Needless to say, I am ordering Herb's washers very soon.

Adrenaline,

No, it's not loose like it's gonna come off. It's just that the slot in the frame lets the bolt move when there's tremendous pressure applied. Some people have evidence of bolt movement but don't hear any noise at all. It could be that the frame wax is lubricating it just enough to keep it from "popping." I don't think it's dangerous at all, just very annoying and because of the ever changing alignment thanks to the moving bolt/control arm, the left tire is at risk of wearing prematurely. A tiny spot weld or Herb's washers will fix it for good.
