SVT Contour Motor Blows Up
Just got the news from Bankston that my son's SVT Contour threw a rod. Approximately $4,500 to repair. I'm taking suggestions on the best way out of this whole mess. The car was purchased used, so no warranty and still a pretty healthy loan balance. What are possible options regarding trade-ins etc...
What ever you do, it should be blown! Maybe a project for "The Wild And Crazy Racing Brothers!" Ivanhoe is probably already on E-bay looking for SVT Racing Contour parts. We know who the Driver is already. Of course it will have to be repainted black!
Should be able to find a motor for it. Maybe KarKraft has them.. They sell the 01 L crate motors very cheap. Last resort find a take out standard contour motor swap it and trade the thing in. Hypothecically of course.
The Contour is a 98 model with about 70K miles. Sweet car, or at least it was. The rod let go coming off the freeway (decelerating). Probably see what Bankston will allow on a new vehicle. I read an article recently in some car mag about an engine swap using the Taurus 3.0 liter motor. Anybody familiar with what I'm talking about?
Flats Man - It's black already. Surprised?

Contour
I have a 95 Contour the best source for Contour info is http://contour.org/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi
The CEG site is loaded wth Contour info and they can stear you to a source of parts, rebuild info etc. The tours don't have a proper windage tray and can suffer from oil starvation, especially in sweeping right hand turns. This is the first I've heard of one blowing on decel.
