chip- how clean should the terminals be?

I put a chip in the L about two months ago. I felt a difference in the shifts and performance. I've been having a shifting problem 1-2 shifts(maybe just the 4 cylinders cutting off-I notice it more with the et streets than with the F1's). I have taken the chip in and out several times. I can't say that I feel a real difference with the chip installed now, so before I take it to the dealer I want to make sure the problem is not chip related. How clean should the computer terminals be? I know all of the goop has to be removed. I've read old posts saying that the terminals should be bright copper, Others say score the terminals a little. What is the proper way? Mine are scored a little and I wonder if I should get the silver off all the way and expose all the copper and make it shiney.

Mine are just scored with just a little copper showing and that was due to the small screw driver. You have to get in between the contacts too. I used some alcohol to clean the contacts off afterwards. If you do not have any alcohol handy just use some 190 proof stuff like polish vodka...LOL
