Our son is Class of 2000/Computer Science BA--now working in San Francisco(most expensive cost of living in the USA)--soon moving to LA(I wish that was Lower Alabama, not Los Angeles!).

Don't forget tree-ripened(can pick your own here in Houston, Peach, Taylor, etc. County) peaches, fresh peach ice cream, Lane's peach packin' shed--near Ft. Valley), some of the best Southern cookin' at Len Berg's Restaurant(a little hard to find-in downtown Macon), Big Boy tomatoes--grown in your backyard, world record Largemouth Bass, Allman Brothers' Southern Rock, cheap 93 oct.-$1.38.9/gal., etc., etc......sorry, I got carried away.

Don't get much better than this-----hmmmmm--maybe Florida....

Alright guys, quit talking about all those fine ammenities of southern living dammit! I'm from Columbus and moved out here to Oklahoma from Warner Robins / Macon area. I'm been home sick since '94! No good peaches or peach icecream from Lanes Packing Plant (LIGHTNINGROD!) which I used to visit waaaay too often. No sweet tea. No collard greens or grits at the local Shones (sp) buffet. And worst of all, no boiled peanuts and Braves games! Ahhhhhhhh

Chipper: We live in WR--have since 1972(moved up from Miami, after we went thru the third riot). More 'torture': POMO's bbq, blue grass music festivals, Stone Mountain, Lake Seminole, and, my wife's boiled peanuts(grown in fields near us), are to die for, etc.

I had a girlfriend from WRHS that worked at POMO's. hehehe
Used to go camping at High Falls all the time too. Then there was the Byron Peach Outlet with the big peach on a poll. Looks like a big 'ol a$$ from a distance. hehehahah

Hey Chipper,

Thanks for the welcome back.
The humidity here in Athens has been bad...saturated...and the heat has been in the 90-100 degree range this past week. Since a number of you miss collards and grits I have a CHALLENGE for you'll and I throw down the gauntley....We could have a Lightning "beauty contest" (posted images) and the winner will
receive (at my cost) a care package with grits and collards in it.
Well.....?

Call it the "Lightning Collard Challenge"......real fancy title..huh??

Take care Chipper.

GRRR there's a lot of stuff I left behind, I think I'm gonna have to make a trip back to see the rest of the family soon.

Oh yeah, folks out here have no idea what grits are either...

Well Moon, unfortunately I don't own a Lightning. Just a '98 Red F150 STX with '99 Lightning wheels. So your challange with have to remain unchallenged from me for now. Sorry. But if you still want to send some collards...... Just kidding
Maybe I can get Dan to send me some of his wifes boiled peanuts though.......hmmmmmm
I only visited Athens a couple times but both times I went I ate at this little hole in the wall chicken joint called Guthries or something like that. Man, some of the best damn chicken fingers I've ever had.

CHIPPER:

man, those Athens people were pullin' yo leg---chickens don't have no "fingers".....

I'll check the freezer and see if we have any boiled peanuts left from last yr.(I think we're eating the last bag now?). We'll be buying from the new crop in a few wks.

Hehehehahaahahah Guess I was dupt again.
You don't have to send me anything Dan. I was just playing with you. It's too much of a hassle to mail boiled peanuts.
The wife and I are going to try and make a trip back some time before the end of the year. I'll definitely get some then. Just don't know when. Thanks though.

Chipper,

I starting to feel real sorry for you.
If it's an emergency, I can send you a can of "REAL" southern collards with an "OFFICIAL" southern label on the can...
It takes a real man to admit in public he needs his collards and grits...

That's right and I'm damn proud to say it!
You know I'm almost ashamed to admit this being the.. self respecting southern man that I am but, I've been eating ......... instant grits. There! I said it! Embarassed now but, I feel better. :o

My dad always told me that any self respecting southern man won't eat boiled peanuts from a can, instant grits, biscuits from a can, and no offense Moon but collards from a can are a no no too. Thank you for your most generous offer. However, I must regretfully decline.

Hard to admit I don't own a Lightning too. (had to stay on topic)

Howdy Burninout101,

Yes, long time no see. Good to hear from you friend.
As far as the Eaton plant situation.....thought this might pop sooner or latter....Well.....let me get used to the new Bolt....God protect me PLEASE from piston slap and bad blowers.......if things stay good with the new L maby we all can again talk about a big get-together at the Eaton plant here in Athens....I think the Ford dealer here might be interested as part sponser. Your memory is right good Burninout.....you a detective ? (haha).

Chipper,

I understand your guilt and SHAME over eating instant grits but it's going to be ok....Now you are in touch with your inner child...
Us guy's are really liberated now, and we can freely admit these things to each other...NOW for my confession openly in this forum....I HAVE NOT EATEN A MOON PIE IN YEARS !!! Yes, it's true...I am so humiliated....sniff..sniffff.
