I'm almost sure that the problem experienced is NOT transmission related...

Under hard acceleration, the engine seems to "shutdown" like someone pulled the plug on the igniton system. It quickly recovers from the shutdown and continues to operate normally. The truck reacts as if it has a bad T.P.S sensor....an intermittent surge of some sort.

I do not think it's transmission related as the rpm's are not bogging from a premature lock from the convertor.

I agree, i read that article long ago and really should not be posted considering it is dated info .

Maybe if the search function worked past today's date, we could post a link to the original thread...

I don't think I've ever seen a complete answer to the issue.

GEE, GUYS, I SURE AM SORRY...

XJMD44 and JMAN:

Wow, I just read my original post and it seems pretty harsh. I sure am sorry I insulted you guys, especially when your intention was strictly to report some fresh, relevant, thoroughly-researched information (from the always-reliable internet, nonetheless) regarding our precious trucks. Man, I feel bad.

I really have a debt of gratitude to guys like you who put in the time to do the HARD research, to dig DEEP below the surface and strip away the shizznit, reporitng only the distilled essence of the information. Keep up the good work.

After re-reading the original post, it appears that we all (or at least most of us with a 2001 model) have an URGENT problem with our transmissions - in esence a ticking time bomb requiring immediate atention. It appears to involve something called a "mechanical doide". Can you explain to me what that is, exactly, so I'll know what to look for? Perhaps you turned up some details in your search. I think that we all need to get our trucks into the local Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership AT ONCE so Cooter and Gomer can get them up on the lift, remove the transmission, and go rummaging around inside in search for "mechanical diodes". Perhaps they'll find a whole nest of them deep in the bowels of the beast. At the very least, you truck will be cleaner, straighter, faster, and ultimately more reliable after old Cooter and Gomer crank on it for a day with prybars and torches and mallets and other assorted rusty hunks of iron.

...and on a serious note...

Do you get my point yet? You might not like the vessel the message is delivered in (smothered in sarcastic wit), but please consider the message. This is at least the THIRD time this topic (the infamous "mechanical diode") has come up. It is of NO relevance to any Lightning owner, other than the fact that it delayed production of the 2001 models by a couple of months. Every time it is posted, it throws a certain element of the 'Board (mostly poorly-informed newbies) into fits of panic. Usually, "Factory Tech" has to ultimately intervene, but not after much hand-wringing and debate. My displeasure arises from the fact that if ANY effort was expended by the original poster to ANALYZE the information (proper research), rather than simply cut-and-paste some irrelevant, year-old post from Blue Oval News, all of this would be avoided, and I could get some real work done instead of starting a flame war at F150ONLINE.
